I take an antibiotic twice every day for a skin condition called rosacea. It keeps the skin problem at bay, but it gives me a constant yeast infection. So… my face looks good, but other parts are very uncomfortable. Is there anything I can do to releive this constant infection?

Oh that is AWFUL you poor thing.
Wash your undies in hot water, no tub baths, keep it dry down there, cotton crotch only.
Yes the antibiotics are probably causing it.
I used acidophilus tablets to even out the yeast in my body. I was told that antibiotics killed ALL the yeast so the candida took over(yeast infection)
The acidophilus worked. In the vitamin section.
Good luck to you!

If a man got a yeast infection could they pass it to their partner while having sex?
Are there any ways to get rid of it without going to the doctors?
Well since i had my son, my boyfriend and i have been passing it back and forth. I keep getting treated for it, and he was until he lost his health insurance.
Could i just buy Monistat and have him use the cream that it comes with, or should he use some triple antibiotic cream?
I have a doc’s appointment tomorrow, but i really don’t want to keep getting it again and again and again. Its a pain in the butt!!!

Hello Kasmira,

Yes, men can get it and it’s not as common as when it occurs in women, but it is probably due to deeper reasons than just having the yeast present.

Answering your question with the straight answer as fast as possible; yes, there is way to cure it without having to go to the doctor, and it seems to even be the better way. (as you will find in the source website linked below)

Yeast is present in EVERYONE, and it’s perfectly healthy; but when it overgrows, that’s when it becomes a yeast infection.

For men, the problem would usually be that the body is unable to fight the yeast infection, and it’s usually caused by other factors other than just being exposed to the yeast that you have – because a man’s resistance to yeast is usually strong enough to not have it grow.

Monistat only kills the yeast fungus directly and it doesn’t fix what caused it in the first place. In this case, it is his lowered resistance to the yeast fungus, and it would simply overgrow again and may even eventually develop a resistance to Monistat.

Once you fix the root cause, he won’t be the one spreading it to you anymore, because the yeast will not even be able to overgrow (into a yeast infection), and he won’t have it.

The website has all the details.

Additional note:

Antibiotics are actually listed as a CAUSE of the yeast infection, so it’s probably a no no. It is not the right cure for this in this case. That’s just a little tip in case you’re going to use that.

This my first in life with a yeast infection. I went to the doctors today and they said that what it is. The doctor gave me a prescription for bacteria tablets and creme. The medicine was extremely high so i only purchased the tablets and I brought over the counter Monistat 7. I just wanna know how does it work and does it really work

I had to use it once before and it does work you just have to make sure you use it the way it says to. And do not have intercourse while you have the infection because you can spread it to your partner.

My 7 month old son has been taking the antibiotic Omnicef for a sinus infection/ear infection. That gave him looser more frequent bowel movements. Now he has acquired a rash. I have been making sure that he is dry and putting a generous amount of regular diaper rash cream containing zinc oxide. It really doesn’t look bad at all as far as rashes go…but it has been hanging around for about 3 or 4 days so far. Last night when I changed him a couple of the little tiny red bumps were bleeding just a little. I have seen pictures of Yeast infections and his isn’t nearly as bad as those pictures. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Yeast rashes typically start out as a raised red bumpy rash. It will not respond to regular diaper cream. You can apply some lotrimin cream. either the over the counter gynelotrimin or the atheletes foor cream will work. apply at every other diaper change alternating with the regular diaper ointment.

I’m on the 4th day of using a 7-day Monistat (they say its best to use the longest versions). I’ve taken vinegar and salt baths to relieve itching/burning. I’m wondering if it’s okay to do the yogurt-treatment alongside the Monistat treatment? It’s been a long time since I’ve had a yeast infection, but I used to freeze yogurt in tampon applicators, and insert them during the day. They were GREAT, but I can’t remember if I used them with over-the-counter medication as well.

Any ideas?

You can definitely use them together. Take cranberry supplements in the future to prevent UIT’s and yeast infections. Also buy yourself some D-mannose (www.swansonvitamins.com has it very affordable), the next time you feel an infection starting up take a capsule or two for a couple days and you’ll never need monistat or an antibiotic again. It doens’t kill the good bacteria in your body and it’s natural; it comes from concentrated cranberry sugars.
I get infections all the time which have led to kidney infections twice now and I’m only 20! Since I’ve taken the D-mannose I’ve had NO problems wiping out any infection that tries to start up. I swear by the stuff!

Good luck!

I had a prolonged yeast infection as a teenager that I was able to get cleared up after a long time of suffering. Now I’m in my late 20′s and I’m wondering if I am fertile. I have not tried to get pregnant yet and I am on birth control. I asked my doctor about fertility testing but she said I would have to try to get pregnant and fail first before undergoing fertility tests. I would like to stop taking birth control if I’m not fertile. Can anyone offer any advice?

my doctor told me the more infections you have down there can cause infertility but i’m 15 wk pregnant and is 19 and a year before i got pregnant i’ve had 4 UTI’s within a year in a half and within that year i had 2 bacterial infections and one of those bacterial infections i had for year i knew i had it but my dumb doctor i had told me i didnt so i switched doctors and they said i did and i ended up prego 2 months later…

I understand the diet except the breads.Does white self rising flour have yeast. Are there other ready made breads on the market. If it says gluten free is that the same as yeast free?very confusing..Need some simple recipes and meal plans.Fatigue and muscle pain makes it hard to bake alot. Thanks for any information..

Hi Ziffy,
No yeast is not the same as gluten. Gluten is a protein found in some grains whilst yeast is actually a fungi.
You’ll often find yeast and gluten together in bread products because they allow the bread to rise and keep shape.

You need to look for specifically yeast free products and recipes. Perhaps you should ask the same question in the ‘food and drink’ and ‘diet and fitness’ section to get some good recipes and advice for cooking without yeast, but here are a few sites I’ve found:

http://healthycooking.suite101.com/article.cfm/a_week_of_yeast_free_recipes

http://www.theyeastdiet.com/yeast-free-foods.html

http://allrecipes.com.au/recipes/searchresults.aspx?tag=yeast-free

Many of the health claims made on this type of yeast-free websites are unproven nonsense (for example their detox claims), so always listen to your doctor’s advice before believing things you read! If you’re still confused be sure to go back to your doctor for clarification.
Best of luck, hope it works out for you :)

I have a black lab/border collie mix, he constantly has infection in his ears, I clean them use the medicine and wash and have had them flushed twice which can get expensive. The vet said it is common in this type of dog and it could be allergy too, which I think so because he has really itchy dry skin on his back. I just don’t know what to do to help him, should I change his food? I have been to two vets they both just say to give benedryl. But it doesn’t really work, and I feel bad for him scratching at himself all the time.
The ear medication I used was called Mometemax drops and also used a cream, I cant remember the name but it was in a pale green tube. Also use Oti Calm cleansing solution.

Ask your vet to try him on a 3 week course of Ketoconazole ( oral anti – fungal) It’s expensive, but it works wonders. Also, have you tried pulling his ears back? Use a men’s tube sock, cut the end off and slip it over his head ( you may have to secure it with some athletic tape) This will get the air circulating in his ears and help to kill the yeast.Feed him yogurt (plain, unsweetened) everyday, and add at least 2000 mg. of salmon oil to his food every day. Benedryl may stop the itching, but it doesn’t kill the yeast.May I ask what ear medication you use?

Hmmm…Has the vet cultured the discharge from the ears? Perhaps a different antifungal agent is needed. You may also try a rinse of 1/3 white vinegar,1/3 witch hazel and 1/3 dostilled water,in addition to the sock/headband treatment.Have you ever used Panalog? It seems to do the trick,or ,you could even try Monistat ( yes,for vaginal yeast infections.) Clean the ears with the vinegar/witch hazel solution, let dry well, and massage a little of the Monistat cream into the ear canal. It won’t hurt the dog;I did a search;here are a few links for you.

Good luck in treating this frustrating problem.

Or could you get it from…someone having a yeast infection (vagina), and they dried it …down there, and then the person puts the towel up to their face? Is that possible, or no?

Unlikely, but possible. Yeast, or Candida, is a bacteria, thus can be passed on any surface. Candida can live on lots of surfaces….

Thrush is a Candida infection of the mouth that little kids get a lot….and obviously they aren’t getting it from oral sex.

I am struggling to lose my pregnancy weight gain. I am more disciplined and eating more healthily than I ever have in my life, and am exercising moderately ( and with 4 kids am definitely not doing a lot of sitting around). It seems like it takes me a week to lose half to one pound, which is fine with me, except that if I splurge a little on the weekend I can actually gain 3 pounds in one day! I know its not fat, but its so frustrating. I can lose the 3 pounds in a few days and then lose about half a pound more after that if I work real hard, but I feel like I’m playing chutes and ladders.
I have a minor yeast infection now, and I have had extreme fatigue upon waking up in the morning for a long time now. Also, my upper abdomen seems a little hard and distended- like its big, but not just from fat.
Could this be from a systemic yeast overgrowth? If it is, and I am still nursing, how should I fix it?
Also, I just took 150 of diflucan one time dose for the vag yeast infection, and i’m worried that it won’t help if i have a systemic overgrowth. should i ask the doc for more?
I am nursing around the clock- my baby is 5 months old, I’m still his only food.

Yes, it sounds like candida. And yes, candida can be a cause of overweight. Yeast is a living organism that feeds off certain nutrients, and it "gets hungry" for those nutrients, causing you to overeat certain foods, upsetting the natural balance in the intestines, and create cravings to feed the yeast.
Instead of using drugs, please google Candida diet, Healing Naturally by Bee. Her website is loaded with helpful info on ALL the problems caused by yeast and how to cure it.
This woman has cured candida with diet (yeast feeds on certain foods, and must be "starved out") She has helped thousands of people overcome horrible yeast problems when doctors and medicines fail to get rid of the underlying cause.
Her program will also help you lose the extra weight even faster.
She also has an online support group, and will personally answer any questions you have.
