About 2 years ago, I rescued a little Shih Tzu with quite a few medical problems. She has epilepsy, which is now under control.. but her worst problems are her re-occurring yeast infections & skin allergies.

My vet and I have exhausted all of our options. She’s on a very specialized diet..which has pretty much eliminated her skin allergies.. but I can’t seem to beat the yeast infections and it’s driving me crazy.
I do a yeast-controlling, medicated shampoo bath a few times a week..which helps very temporarily.

So far, the only thing that has worked is the medication ketoconazole. However, my dog can only take this medication for extreme flare-ups as, paired with the phenobarbital for her seizures, is quite hard on her little liver.

Any ideas or suggestions are VERY much appreciated. I’m at a loss here.

Try bathing her every day for three weeks with Malaseb shampoo.Leave it on for 30 minutes every time. After that, bathe every three days. After she is dry, apply an athlete’s foot powder or spray to her entire body ( one with Miconazole). Give her plain yogurt every day and try her on a fish-based dog food. I recommend Eagle Pack Holistic Selects Anchovy,Sardine and Salmon. Keep the coat clipped short and keep her ears back with the top of a sock slipped over her head so that air gets into the ear canals. Zymox is a good product for chronic ear infections. And has she been checked for hypothyroidism?

a fungus infection in the vaginal area and antibiotics can cause them because of the depletion of a certain bacteria that is needed to fight this off i was told when on an antibiotic eat lots of yogurt as far as a home remedy once you have it you need to get the medicine for it and it is over the counter medicine

I have a yeast infection, which I bought clotrimazole 3 day treatment for. I finished the treatment, but still have some itching and burning in my vaginal area. I have tried the vinegar treatment, but it doesnt seem to work. I have been taking acidophilus supplements to help combat the problem, and it seems I read somewhere that these geltabs can be placed in the vagina. Is this possible?

Yes, there are acidophilus suppositories for the vagina.

I’ve been taking spinning classes for over a few weeks now the classes are over and hour long and you get very sweaty. I generally wear tight fitting pants due to the nature of the class and intensity however a little over a week ago I began to feel the signs of a yeast infection..however they are extremely mild can exercise be the cause?

It’s not the exercise itself, but the tight clothes and moisture and heat from working up a sweat. That and the slight friction when you’re sitting on the bike seat. I imagine the clothes you’re wearing are made of lycra or spandex blends of sorts. Try wearing cotton undies, and see if you can find a slim fitting but slightly looser cotton short to wear instead of the tight fitting pants, it will help with the possible yeast infections and discomfort.

If it’s a yeast infection, it will really burn and itch and get progressively worse without treatment. You’d also notice thick white discharge.

If it’s just heat rash or irritation from the sweat and tight clothes, it would likely subside once you’ve showered and dried off.

That being said, good for you for taking spin classes! I’m still working myself up to that level :P hehe.

Ok, I have heard good and bad about yogurt. Also I have heard that you should apply it then I heard you should eat it. Can you please help clear it up? Should I apply yogurt to a diaper rash area, or should I feed her yogurt? I do not want to put yogurt on her and then find out she was supposed to eat it. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks so much. I believe in home remedies that is why I am asking. It is much cheaper and usually more effective then going to doctor.

Unless the rash has been diagnosed as a yeast infection the yogurt will not be beneficial in clearing it up. Yogurt can help with some yeast infections, but not all. You can eat it, but if your daughter is younger than 9 months you probably won’t want to have her eat it. There have been some studies that have shown limited success with putting yogurt directly on the yeast infection that is in the diaper or vaginal area. You have to read the label of the yogurt carefully as it must contain live cultures in order to be effective. It is very helpful to use cotton cloth diapers instead of disposable diapers and keep the diaper changed frequently. Candida, the organism that causes yeast infections, really likes moist environments. My youngest daughter had frequent yeast infections as an infant, before she was old enough to eat yogurt. We used nystatin with her and that worked very well to clear it up. However, whether you use a prescription medication or a natural alternative, it can take several weeks and as long as a month before you see significant improvement. We had to let our daughter lie around naked a good part of the time and before we put her cloth diaper back on, we’d put on the nystatin then cover it liberally with Desitin. When she was a bit older, our doctor suggested giving her yogurt, but it didn’t really clear it up any faster for her. However, my 93 year old grandma, who is very much into natural remedies, regularly eats live culture yogurt and puts it on when she has a yeast infection. I figure she’s 93 and pretty healthy and spry so I eat yogurt, too, but I’ve never had a yeast infection. ADDED: Diaper rash and yeast infection can look similar, so you may need to still take your little one to the doctor for a proper diagnosis. Desitin or other OTC diaper rash creams alone will not touch a yeast infection.

What are the best ways to Treat Yeast Infection Because of Antibiotics?

This is a great place to start:

Any other suggestions?

Yeah you need to ask your pharmacist for a treatment. Cannastan is good. Also, plain natural yoghurt is supposed to be a great remedy.

Actually, I prefer to take Diflucan, which is a prescription oral anti-yeast medication. If I want to get a running start on killing off the excess yeast, though, I’ll use a 3 or 7 day treatment. I’m diabetic, some of my medications make my blood sugar go up, so my yeast infections are harder to treat than the average woman’s.

I’d say to go with what works for you. If you have good results with a one day treatment, then use that. It’s certainly more convenient.

I need to nkow the symptoms of male yeast infections AND the source you got it from.

Males sometimes get an overgrowth of yeast under the foreskin. Symptoms are usually redness and itching, sometimes a whitish thick collection and splitting of the skin if it’s bad.

Yeast overgrowths are not contagious. Everyone has small amounts of yeast on their skin, especially in moist places, as well as in the bowel, mouth and vagina. It can get out of balance with the other bugs for a variety of reasons like taking antibiotics, hormonal changes or excess moisture.

I am looking for bread maker recipes that are yeast free? Thanks. or bread recipes that are wheat free. My boss is on a gluten free diet and his wife has a bread maker and was wanting some home made bread recipes. preferably yeast free, but any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
He is on a gluten free diet, but was told to keep yeast to a minimum as his Candida was high, that is what the natropath told him anyway.

Any quick bread can be adopted to work in a bread maker. That would include Irish soda Bread, banana bread….etc

I have white discharge. i have been noticing this for the lats 3 days. it doesnt hurt or itch. it doesnt hurt when i pee either. but my periods are 3 days late. my partner always uses a condom though. and i tester negative for pregnancy twice. could this be a yeast infection? or could i be pregnant? please suggest. also, does an yeast infection cause you to not get your periods for that month? could this be the reason y i havnt got my periods yet?

No.
I used to get them all the time, because i was allergic to soap. It doesn’t affect your period.
