What is the difference of symptoms between HSV 1 and HSV 2?

Okay, so, I am a bit paranoid right now. I haven’t been sexually active in awhile [around 5 months], but I know that genital herpes can stay dormant for a long time. I’ve had oral herpes before; it was nasty. Green puss and all of the works. What I’m confused about if I DO have genital herpes, shouldn’t I have the same symptoms for the oral virus too?

I was on antibiotics for 10 days, got a yeast infection, and I have inflamed skin with bumps near my butt. Also, there’s a bit of dry skin. Any idea of what could have caused that? I’ve been searching everything; infected ingrown hairs, skin conditions, STDs..

TIA :]

Wow. Theres a lot going on with your question. Bear with me if this gets long.

The symptoms you are describing could EASILY be caused by irritation of your skin from the yeast infection, or a bad reaction to the antibiotic, or something other than herpes. Herpes symptoms will come and go in the form of outbreaks, and the sores hurt. A lot.

If you really want to know if it is herpes, then GO TO A DOCTOR and have them swab the sores. Don’t wait, becuase once the sores are gone you’d need to get a blood test, and the results from that are less conclusive than from a swab. All the websearches in the world won’t be as definitive as a lab test.

With regards to HSV1 and HSV2. They are very similar. You can get either virus in either place. HSV1 “prefers” the mouth, and usually causes worse symptoms orally than genitally, but you can get it on your genitals. HSV2 “prefers” the genitals, and is typically worse on the genitals than on the mouth, but can be caught either place.

The symptoms for both these viruses are pretty much the same. Recurrent sores (either blisters or just open sores) on your skin that are very painful, and subside after several days.
Initial outbreaks are a bit different, but I don’t think that either type causes “green pus.”

Neither virus can be cured, so if you had oral herpes before, you have it now.

For more info on herpes, I highly recommend the website below.

Good luck.

do i really have a yeast infection? or is it something more serious?

Well, for starters im only 15. ive never had sex. i told my mom that i thought i had a yeast infection last weak, and i started the 7night treatment of monistat. The white discharge seemed to get a bit better after about three days, but now its day six and i feel fairly sick. i stayed home from school today because my throat hurts, and a fever. i also have a cold sore. i have these little sores on my vagina that are painful, and ‘paper cut’ type things. is it possible that i gave myself cold sores down there as well, or am i just unlucky to have a virus and a yeast infection at the same time, and these sores are just due to the yeast infection that was more severe than i thought? all i know is that my vagina may be a little swollen, and hurts. also there seems to be some discharge again. help me! i dont exactly want to tell my mother if i have given myself herpes or something.

Relax. You can’t give yourself herpes. You also cannot give yourself or get an STD if you’ve never had sex. I’m not a dr. but I’m going to venture a guess as to what happened. You’re 15… it’s not common for girls at 15 who’ve never had sex to get a yeast infection (unless you wear tight jeans frequently) It IS common, however, between menstrual cycles to have white discharge, sometimes thicker and sticky sometimes clear depending on where you are at in your cycle. Here’s the key thing… Before you used the monistat was there a very strong odor, like fishy smell? Yeast infections usually smell bad enough to make you feel sick. If you didn’t have a strong odor like that you probably never had a yeast infection. Using monistat when you don’t have a yeast infection, and when you are still so young, can cause the PH balance in your vagina to become whacked out. There is a balance of bacteria normally in your vagina that protects you from infections and other stuff. When one bacteria gets weak and taken over by the other, you get a yeast infection, if it’s the other way around you can get sores. You’ll need to go to a dr. to get a proper diagnoses however, and you’ll likely need medication.
Hang in there girl, hope it gets better.

What is the best treatment for Ear Yeast Infections in cats?

My cat has an ear infection. I had to get kind of assertive with the vet to get him to check and see what kind of infection it is. Turns out it is just yeast, in one ear only.

He prescribed her Vetromax, which says “FOR OTIC USE IN DOGS ONLY” under the label he put on the box. It says each gram contains; “Gentamicin sulfate USP equivalent to 3mg gentamicin base, betamethasone valerate USP equivalent to 1 mg betamethasone, and 10 mg clotrimazole USP in a mineral oil-based system containing a plasticized hydrocarbon gel.”

All this medication seems a little bit excessive for yeast, to me. He said it is the only thing available.

any suggestions?

Vetromax is a pretty decent ear treatment. There are other products available, but most are very, very similar. Just about all of them say “dogs only.” This just means that they were tested specifically in dogs, but not cats. This is pretty common in veterinary medications – not a lot of money out there for drug companies to test their products in both species. It is perfectly okay to use it in cats if prescribed by a vet.

He needs the clotrimazole to kill the yeast, and the betamethasone (steroid) to reduce inflammation and pain. The gentamicin (antibiotic) isn’t really necessary, but I don’t know of a single ear medication with an antifungal and a steroid, but no antibiotic.

The mineral oil base/hydrocarbon gel just means it’s an ointment. These products are pretty inert – they just help the medication coat the ear canal and they won’t hurt your cat.

I’d use the medication like the vet told you if I were in your place. However, if you are really uncomfortable with what the vet said, there is no harm in seeking a second opinion. If you want a second opinion, though, get one tomorrow and don’t start the treatment yet (you’ll want the second vet to be able to check the ear before the medications affect how the infection looks).

burning during intercourse after recovering from a yeast infection?

I recently was diagnosed with a yeast infection and took diflucan to clear it up. All the itching and discharge is gone. I had intercourse for the first time in 2 weeks since the infection yesterday and had burning to the point we had to stop. Is this just a result of the infection and needs more time to heal? They also tested me for bacterial infections, none which I had.
Thank you so much everyone for all the advice!! I think I’ll wait a while longer and let it feel before anymore fun time! Thanks a bunch.
*and let it HEEL

Chances are you have NOT allowed yourself enough time to heal.. Even though you may have taken all the medicine, that doesn’t mean that the infection has run it’s course,, and infact you may require more antibiotics.. Were there refills on there??

I would give myself anouther week or two to heal to be safe, and then if you still feel any discomfort down there,, I wouldn’t even try it,, I’d just go back to my doctor… Better being safe than sorry…

Also, the medications haven’t had time to get out of your system, and that may have something to do with it… Tell hubby that he’ll just have to wait,, or go back to basic training like when he was a teen…lol (hope he has a job thats been soft on the hands)..lol

BEST OF LUCK TO YAW..

vaginal question…?

This maybe TMI for some…only serious replies please…

My periods are usually very regular, and my discharge does change throughout my cycle, but I like to think i have a pretty good understanding of my body. However lately I have been having a clear watery discharge that i do not usually get. Now its changed to a milky white discharge, that only really comes out when i pee. I’ve had yeast infections before, and this is not what it felt like. Theres not itchy, pain, or odor. I’m a bit confused. Anyone else ever had this? found out answer?

Have you been exercising more?

Different Types of Discharge:

White: Thick, white discharge is common at the beginning and end of your cycle. Normal white discharge is not accompanied by itching. If itching is present, thick white discharge can indicate a yeast infection.

Clear and stretchy: This is “fertile” mucous and means you are ovulating.

Clear and watery: This occurs at different times of your cycle and can be particularly heavy after exercising.

Yellow or Green: May indicate an infection, especially if thick or clumpy like cottage cheese or has a foul odor.

Brown: May happen right after periods, and is just “cleaning out” your vagina. Old blood looks brown.

Different types of infections:

Signs of yeast infections:
White, cottage cheese-like discharge
Swelling and pain around the vulva
Intense itching

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:
A white, gray or yellowish vaginal discharge
A fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soap
Itching or burning
Slight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva

Signs of trichomoniasis
A watery, yellowish or greenish bubbly discharge
An unpleasant odor
Pain and itching when urinating
Most apparent after your period

Anyone know of a natural ear infection remedy for dogs?

My Basset Hound has had a couple ear infecions caused by yeast and she has another one now. In the past she has used prescription Mometamax. Is there a natural remedy that will treat and cure the infection? I want to avoid taking her to the vet again if at all possible.
I dont need smart assed answers please, I know what my dog has, I know that Basset Hounds are susceptible to ear infections, I take care of her and Im a big believer in natural cures. If you cant answer my question with a logical, polite answer dont answer at all.
THANKS in advance for your help!

My bulldog Bulldozer used to get sore ears and they smelled like cheese. So my vet said to try vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Fifty percent of each or half and half.
The vinegar breaks down the gunk and the alcohol dries up water from say a bath. I used it after every bath and some times in between. Do not use it more than once a week. Too much drying can be painful. Also the smell of funky ears can draw flies that will bite and aggravate you puppy.

Best to do this outside and only if your dog really trusts you. I had someone else pour in the medicine I would hold him still and hold his ear open. Then we would filler up. Flop his ears closed and massage the sides of his head and then let him go. This is the gross part he would shake his head and any thing loosened up would come out. Every thing would fly out. So we did this outside and in not our best clothes. With a floppy eared dog you will need to wipe away the excess after he shakes his head. Towel drying his head if he goes out in the rain or sprinkler etc is also a good idea. They don’t sweat but their skin and ears produces oil like ours.

Do not use this solution if your dog has open sores the vinegar and the alcohol will sting.

You could get bit or he may never let you touch his / her head again.

Never never ever use hydrogen peroxide. The foaming action causes pressure and can damage their ears permanently.

Cure for Male Yeast Infection ???

I heard to apply white vinegar and yogurt to the area. Can someone that really knows what to do give me a detailed description? Thanks

Any kind of anti-fungal cream or spray should work. Yeast is a bacteria. You should use a cream that contains fluconazole. It should work. Just make sure you don’t have sex until you and your partner have treated the problem because you can continue to pass it back and forth and never get rid of it.

yeast infection irritation
Does this sound like a yeast infection or just irritation?

I have had my period for about 3 weeks now because I started my birth control again (after a 9 month hiatus) and about 2 days ago the bleeding stopped (and spotting) and now I have a lot of irritation and itching no yeasty smell though and no real yeasty discharge (a little bit but not OBVIOUS yeast discharge).

I only used tampons in the past 3 weeks so I figured it was probably just my vagina being irritated from that.

I had unprotected sex a bunch of times with my boyfriend right when I started taking the pill, is pregnancy a possibility?

Thanks in advance for anyone who answers, and before you even say it, I will see a doctor as soon as I can I’m just looking for relevant advice!

For your questions about pregnancy, if you had a one day start pill you should be protected against pregnancy (but not 100% my sister had twins on it). If you are taking the pill for the first time, you need to wait 7 days for the pill to become effective. Remember, the pill does not protect against STIs.

The irritation and itching could be due to injury during sex, improper cleaning (not cleansing and rinsing completely), or an infection. If you want to rule out the first two, clean yourself thoroughly and see if it improves, and wait a few days to see if you begin to heal (that area of your body heals quickly). If it is a yeast infection, cranberry juice can help it not eliminate the infection, though it takes a few days. It makes your urine very acidic so that the bacteria cannot multiply, giving your body a fighting chance against the infection.

If you try these things, and there is no improvement, make sure you see a doctor. It could be a whole host of possibilities, and you can’t be too careful.
