How to Treat Yeast Infection Archives

I am on the 10th week of pregnancy and I have a vaginal yeast infection. My doctor has prescribed me metronidazole and miconazole nitrate. I read about the metronidazole and found out that it PROBABLY can be harmfull (birth defects). So, now I would like to know how harmfull can be the yeast infection if I do not treat it during the pregnancy. Or may be the is a way to treat it with something save?

When doctors decide on what medicine to give you, they weight the pro’s and con’s of the medicine. Also when you say that is can be harmful this means that they did a test and most likely 1 out of 400,000 babies had something wrong when they were born, even if it had nothing to do with the medicine they still have to put that caution on there. If you don’t treat it your going to be in pain and i don’t recommend doing that. Talk to your doctor but again he knows your pregnant and if he thought it would hurt the baby he wouldn’t give it to you in the first place. Good Luck!

I’ve basically been on atibiotics for like a month going on two months because penicillin did not get my tooth infection out so im on new antibiotics and its probaly the reason i have a yeast infection. but i cant stop taking my antibiotics for my teeth infection. what could the doctor
do for me?

He will give you anti-yeast preparations to use and may suggest you use natural LIVE yogurt for the entire time you are taking the antibiotic.

i get yeast infections frequently, and i dont want to spend the 12-16$ each time for monistat,so if i dont treat it is it ok but if i do treat it will it be less likly to come back ?

you should treat it PROPERLY – read below

what is the recommended OTC product to treat yeast infection and a reason why ? its for persistent vaginal itching & pain

In some cases you may have to take a trip to the Doctor. It is very probable you can cure it on your own. I suggest reading the "Natural Cure for Yeast Infection" .

ok, this is sort of embarassing, but i’ve had a yeast infection for a while now, and i dont know how to treat it. can someone tell me an effective way to treat it and get rid of it?

How do you know that it is a yeast infection?
Presumably you already have tried self treatment or you would not be asking the Q
I suggest that you see your doctor for confirmation and if necessary swabs.also it maybe necessary to exclude diabetes. it would be useful to know your age/on pill/children etc and sexual history

More likely to get fungus if pregnant/on pill/diabetic

Is there any chance that you have a STD? but think/hope that it is a yeast infection and not any thing else

Assuming that it is a fungus infection
1)no bath salts/oils/bubble bath/perfumed soap/vaginal deodorants etc They remove natural protection
2)cotton underwear
3)nystatin cream /pessaries-also cream under foreskin of partner
4)Diflucan-fluconazole by mouth would clear bowel of yeast as bowel can often be a source of reinfection-available over the counter UK

Any other suggestions?

Yeah you need to ask your pharmacist for a treatment. Cannastan is good. Also, plain natural yoghurt is supposed to be a great remedy.

I am just guessing I have a yeast infection (yuck!) and in the past I have treated it with an over the counter medicine. Six months ago I had a hysterectomy and maybe it is no deal, but can I still use the same OTC medicine? Thanks!

If you are not sure about whether or not you have a yeast infection, you really should be consulting a physician and trying to set up an appointment for an exam. You must be aware of all the risk that you may be holding by not going to your doctor. The problem may be coming from a number of things in the female anatomy. Please don’t try and solve this issue yourself by using the OTC product when your not sure if that really is the problem. Good luck with this situation.

I think I have a yeast infection, but I can’t afford to buy the expensive products like monistat. Any home remedies?

Kim their or no home remedies for a yeast infection, however their are unproven treatments such as tea tree oil, taking garlic supplements. I did hear that eating yogurt is good for assisting in preventing. But…if you have never been diagnosed with a yeast infection I recommend you see a doctor before buying monistat at, it could be a bacteria infection. Good luck

i think i might have a yeast infection and ive already gotten that test kit and it didnt work too well but i was wondering if you could treat a yeast infection even if your werent sure you had it. i just wasnt sure if there would be any bad side affects if i ended up not having one. also, which is the best treatment b/c i know there is diff. kinds of each product.

NO go to the doctor if you cant afford try a free clinic if left untreated it can get worse.

I had a root canal the other day and was given a course of penicillin to fight infection. I think I can feel a yeast infection coming on and I would like to treat it but I still have three more days of penicillin to take. Would the yeast infection medicine work if I still have the antibiotic in my system? Will the yeast infection come back if I cure it before I am done with the penicillin?

Yes! use a topical anti-fungal. Once, you have finished your anti-biotic course start with a oral anti-fungal provided you are not pregnant, breast-feeding or have heart or liver problems with a probiotic such as Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium. Then stay on the probiotic’s till your back to normal.
