1) Eat yogurt!!!! It contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that destroy yeast. Use only plain yogurt with active cultures.

2) Douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.

3) Decrease or eliminate sugar and sugary foods. Sugar promotes yeast growth.

4) Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent.

5) Try gentian violet. It’s a traditional remedy for yeast and other infections, and can be found in pharmacies. Swab the area with it once or twice a day. Make sure to use a thick pad – it stains everything.

6) Use an herbal douche. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with cider vinegar.

7) You must use herbal treatment. In that case Yeastrol is really good (probably the best) product that gets rid of yeast infection comparatively fast and makes you feel more confident knowing that it wont reappear again!
And of course it is better if you use full course (5 months – if I remember correctly). For me it worked very fast + I dont get yeast infections anymore…

Yogurt is full of live cultures which naturally slow down the growth of yeast. This is why after you take antibiotics-which also kill good bacteria, most docs will advise you eat pro-biotic foods.

Cranberry juice is great for digestive health. Its help directly for yeast infections is slim, but its so good for your that it can only help your system as a whole.

Please don’t listen to people who have no idea what they are talking about. Especially the one who claims to have a biology degree.

I was wondering, since we had sex while I had the yeast infection, does he need to get treated as well? I have read that he could cause me to get another vaginal yeast infection if we had sex again after I treat what I have now. How does a male get treated for this? We will not be having sex until I am rid of this yeast infection.

Also, do vaginal yeast infections ever go away on their own, or do they always need to be cured with OTC or doctor-prescribed treatments? Are there any side effects of waiting more than a few days to get treated?

Thank you for all the responses so far. The itching around the vulva has gotten pretty severe today. I have researched and it seems that I have virtually all of the yeast infection symptoms (I have experienced an STI and even bacterial vaginitis in the past, and this is neither of those).

if your bf is circumcised, then he shouldn’t need to be treated. if he’s not circumcised, then keep this in mind if the yeast infections return. in other words, he shouldn’t need to worry about treating himself unless you get recurring yeast infections and you and your doctor can’t figure out why.

it is advisable to see a doctor the first time you get a yeast infection, but i doubt many people actually do. one benefit of seeing a doctor is that there is a pill called Diflucan that will cure the yeast infection without the suppositories and creams. If a guy is treated for a yeast infection, he will likely be given a pill like Diflucan.

A yeast infection can go away on its own, depending on changes in the chemistry of your vagina over the course of your cycle. having your period will almost always cure a yeast infection. If you decide to prolong treatment, chances are it will only get worse, become more itchy and with a larger quantity of yeast. once you experience itching, you should treat it because it will drive you crazy if you let it go. i don’t believe there are any side effects from waiting other than discomfort, and possibly a bacterial infection if you scratch at it.

i used to get them a lot until i started taking a supplement called Acidophilus. It is pro-biotic bacteria that eat the yeast. they also aid in digestion. I take it in capsule form, which i buy at Whole Foods. It is also found in yogurt. if you’re worried about your boyfriend, you should both try acidophilus.

if your yeast infection doesn’t go away or returns after you use the monistat you should see your doctor.

I take stuff called Candex that’s sold over the counter. It also helps to cut carbs way down. There are a lot of herbs that counteract it gently and might be helpful applied topically. I don’t know.
