Mouth Yeast Infection Archives

my 2 month old niece had a yeat infection in her mouth a while back what causes this? and can adults get them?

A yeast infection in the mouth is called thrush. It is pretty common in babies-seems more so with those breast fed (but this is NOT a reason to stop breastfeeding!). Everyone has "normal flora" it is the bacteria and yeast that live on and in all of us–skin, mouth, nose, vagina etc. When one organism overgrows the others you have an infection. Babies who are breast fed likely pick up the yeast from the mothers breast (their normal flora) and since they don’t have a lot of bacteria yet to keep things in check, they yeast overgrows. Adults can get thrush usually those who are immune challenged such as HIV/AIDS patients, diabetics get it because they have a lower immune system and because yeast loves sugar-which diabetics spill more of. If you take steroids like prednisone or inhaled steroids for asthma you are prone to having it too-that is why they recommend washing your mouth out after using inhalers.

You need to see a doctor and ask for a oral medication called Diflucan 150mg. It is one pill that you take by mouth and it should knock out the infection. If not, you may need to take another dose of one pill 3-4 days after the first one. You can easily pass yeast from person to person, but there is usually an underlying cause for the infection. If you are immunocompromised, have just finished a round of strong antibiotic, or wear some form of oral appliance you will be prone to catching a yeast infection. You just need to figure out how you got it so that you can avoid getting it again. Good-luck!

My babys 3weeks old and he has a yeast infection in his mouth. He’s had it for almost 3 weeks. We got a prescription for him to take 4 times daily but its gone and it hasn’t gone away. I have to take him for a check up in 3 days. Is there anything I can do until then to help clear it up?
Its not the kind of yeast infection that we get in our vagina! Its from the milk he eats. And when he falls asleep feeding and doesn’t swallow all the milk it just sits there.

um um i would be careful about the prescription!! Make sure it’s NOT an atibiotic that CAUSES yeast infections! yeast infections are so so hard to get rid of, but try the book "eat right 4 your type" by Peter J. D’Adamo and Catherine Whitney. yeast infections feed off the stuff that you eat and this book tells you what foods are best for your blood type and will help you work against the yeast rather than feed it.

My mom had a yeast infection for a really long time and she took antibiotics that almost killed her. finally she found this book and she’s felt so much better

I just had my tongue pierced last night and my piercer was adamant that I not drink beer for 2 months because of risk of a yeast infection in my mouth. This is coming from an employee of a highly regarded tattoo/piercing shop in Austin, TX. I have had my tongue pierced before and the piercer then said nothing about this nor to any of my friends who have this piercing. Has anyone ever experienced this phenomenon? To me, it sounds like total BS.

its not BS.

beer has yeast as an ingredient. the yeast can get lodged in your piercing, and a yeast infection can occur. happened to my sister with hers.

beer is alcohol anyway. think about it logically, you’re supposed to be using an alcohol free mouthwash in the first place, why would you want to drink alcohol while your piercing is healing?

if you’re going to drink while your piercing is healing, make sure you have a small container of alcohol free mouthwash with you to rinse your mouth after every drink.

I’ve had a yeast infection in my mouth and when I eat or drink it starts hurting and my gums hurt in and it hurts by back tooth, even when I’m not eating. What I believe happen was I was sleeping and I bit my cheek and bad bacteria got into the infection and caused this. I try brushing my teeth 4 times a day because of this.

How do I make this yeast infection go away? Will it effect my gums?
It’s not on my tongue, it’s on the inside of my cheek and it’s really low
I remember somebody told me today it was thrush

I’m not so sure this is a yeast infection. A yeast infection in your mouth or thrush would cause white spots to appear. Also, if your teeth and gums hurt, brushing more frequently will NOT help! They are already irritated and you are just exacerbating the problem by doing this. OK, if you are right and you do have a yeast infection in your mouth you need to go to you dr and get an antifungal medication to clear it up. However, based on your symptoms I would be more apt to think you have one of the following: 1.) a canker sore, which is a common sore people get that will clear up on its own and the irritation is the result of over brushing already irritated skin, 2.) You mention that in addition to your gums you have one tooth that is bothering you, this suggests a cavity or perhaps an abcess. A dentist would need to be consulted to verify this. 3.) You symptoms also suggest gingervitis which results in an inflammation and soreness of the gums. If this is the case you need to see your dentist for proper medical treatment. 4.) And lastly perhaps you have just been brushing and flossing to aggressively and have irritated your gums! This happened to me. I though I had an abcessed tooth because my back molar hurt all the time especially when I flossed back there. Terrified I made an emergency appt with my dentist just to be told that I was flossing to aggressively and had irritated my gums in the area. Hope this helps.

I was told by some female co-workers that one can acquire a yeast infection in the oral cavity due to antibiotic taking. Is this true? I thought only women got them. What’s really going on. I’m experiencing a burning sensation on my bottom lip and in the inner left jaw area. Here’s the deal, I have an abcessed tooth and the Dentist prescribed a Amox-Clav 500mg (amoxicillin/clavulanate). Generic for Augmentin. My jaw was extremely swollen, but, now it’s disapating. Thank God!!!!!

Yes it can!

i have a four month old grandaughter.she has had thrush of the mouth and now a vaginal yeast infection.she is not on antibiotics.is this from being dirty and not changed?

uhh, I’ve never heard of a vaginal yeast….but thrush is an oral yeast…I have 2 boys, they haven’t had it, but my niece did….Many get it from breastfeeding, children can get it from nipples ( I recommend boiling them), a biggie is from other children (daycare, other school age children, etc.)….It’s a common occurance w/ young children.

To be honest, unless she was touching her mouth and then her vaginal area, I honestly don’t know about that…

I didn’t know at the time the person had a yeast infection

A yeast infection in the lady you ate out doesn’t mean there is something wrong with her or you esp. if you say you didn’t know.
If your mouth gets white on the inside like in the cheeks and the tongue you’ll know.
Babies get yeast infections.
Yeast infections and bladder infections is normal woman thing.

A simple but effective home remedy is to take Acidlopholus, which is found in yogurt but this does not always work, especially if it is a bad one.
Diflucan is the only oral treatment for vaginal yeast infections. What’s more, since Diflucan was approved for the treatment of vaginal yeast infections (1994), it’s been prescribed more than 20 million times! When your doctor or healthcare professional prescribes Diflucan, you can feel confident that you are getting a treatment he/she believes in.

How Diflucan works

Diflucan is unique in many ways. It is the only oral pill available for vaginal yeast infections, so it can be taken anytime, anywhere-unlike creams and suppositories, which normally require you to wait until bedtime. Diflucan works from the inside out, penetrating deep into the vaginal tissue. A single dose of Diflucan remains in the tissue at effective levels for 3 days fighting the infection.
In clinical studies, the most common side effects associated with Diflucan were headache (13%), nausea (7%), and abdominal pain (6%). With Diflucan there is the possibility of an increased risk of side effects compared with creams. To prevent heart-related complications, do not take Diflucan if you are taking PropulsidR. In rare instances, serious effects on the liver and serious allergic reactions were reported. Do not take Diflucan if you are nursing. If you are pregnant or taking other medications consult your doctor. Click here for important product information.

When it works

If you’ve ever experienced the discomfort of a yeast infection, you know that relief can’t come soon enough. You don’t need to wait until bedtime to take Diflucan. Once you take it, Diflucan will begin to work and will continue to work over the next several days. You will probably notice some relief of your symptoms within 24 hours. Soon after, symptoms will lessen. For some women, it may take longer than 24 hours for symptom relief to begin and may take as many as 9 days. If your symptoms have not improved within 3 to 5 days, call your doctor or other healthcare professional.

What does it come from and how did you treat it..what was it ?

I did…it was brought on by extreme stress…I wasn’t eating correctly and ran my immune system down. I was prescribed Nystatin swish and swallow for two weeks and treated the yeast infection as usual.
