Recurring Yeast Infections Archives

If it happens more than twice in 6 months you need to see a doctor i’m afraid. You might need a oral fluconazole and then low dose fluconazole over 7 days to make sure its gone, plus pessaries to work directly at the site.

The vet just wants to put her on cephlaxin(anti-biotic) and she has been there, still comes back. No more anti-biotics. She has a bland diet (chicken and rice, all organic cooked), given acidopholis, cranberry supplemants, multi vitamin, fish oil, and unfortunately, previcox for arthritis. I am tending to thing that previcox is not helping either.

I wouldn’t use antibiotics anymore either. Taking certain antibiotics & steroids in a cause for yeast infections. Please read this link – it has good info on the causes & prevention of yeast infections.

For a year and a half, I suffered from recurring symptoms: burning urine and a red, inflamed, itchy vulva. I spent hundreds of $$ in copays and pills, going to gynecologist after gynecologist, testing negative for all STD’s. They put me on every possible yeast infection medication, even though my cultures usually showed healthy flora and no yeast overgrowth. Despite one anti-yeast pill after after another and every possible cream, nothing was helping. Well, guess what?! I finally went to a GYN specialist who treats and studies disorders of the vulva, and she told me that I have lactobacilliosis, which occurs when lactobacilli bacteria attach to each other to create longer-than-usual strands. This is caused by too much acidophilus, and it can even create discharge. Few doctors know of the condition because it’s "rare," and it’s nearly always misdiagnosed as a chronic yeast infection! A few days of antibiotics will cure it, but be careful not to trigger an actual yeast infection. :)

Thanks! Very interesting. I don’t think I’ve ever had an infection, but this info is invaluable to women.

:) Good karma coming your way…

Ever since I had my 7 month old, I’ve gotten a yeast infection every month right before my period. I have a two year old also and never had this problem before. Sometimes the OTC medication works, but sometimes not. Could it be something more serious?

I would ask you if you are having unprotected sex. Sometimes a woman can pass the infection to her partner and in turn he passes it back. You and your partner (if this is the case) can go see a doctor and discuss this issue with him. There are some other causes for reoccurring Yeast Infection that you and your doctor can discuss to.

I am 30 weeks pregnant and I have had a yeast infection since my first trimester. I used clomitrazole cream, yogurt, hydrogen peroxide(on the outside) all of these things and it came back….Can having having this infection recur affect the baby?

I have a couple of suggestions for you.

First, the medication you took before, clomitrazole, is one of the least effective medications to treat yeast. There are actually several different kinds of yeast, not just one, and many strains out there now are those that are resistant to clomitrazole. It’s a bit more expensive, but look for "Ticonazole" (generic name). It is effective against the most different varieties of yeast. If you can’t find that then look for "Butoconazole", and my 3rd choice would be Terconazole.

Second, do not use a one-day or three-day treatment. Use a full seven day treatment. Actually, due to the difficulty of getting rid of this pesky infection during pregnancy and the fact that you seem especially resistant to treatment, I’d buy two boxes and use it for 2 weeks straight.

Third, at the same time as you do the yeast medication, begin taking probiotics. These contain beneficial forms of bacteria, including acidophilus, which actually eat yeast. When normal bacteria are in balance you rarely have trouble with yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis.

Forth: if you still have problems after all that be sure and ask your doctor to check you for bacterial vaginosis. It is quite common, often mistaken for a yeast infection, and will often exist with a yeast infection. If you have a concurrent BV infection it will be almost impossible to get rid of the yeast. Symptoms of BV are a thin, often watery, whitish – greyish discharge, often very profuse, and it usually has an extremely foul odor, especially after sex. It may be irritating due to the constant moisture, but does not usually cause itching.

Other aids to getting rid of a yeast infection:

1. Eliminate ALL sugar from your diet. Yeast loves sugar, feeds on it, and you will probably crave it because of this, but stay away from it. It may even be necessary to eliminate fruit for a while.

2. Increase your water intake. Drink at least 8 8oz glasses of water per day.

3. Yogurt is great unless it has sugar or fruit in it! Make sure it has live culture. Probiotics are really a better choice due to the sugar issue.

4. Wear cotton underware or no underware, skirts, no jeans. You want lots of air down there.

5. No sex until it clears up. Sorry, but sex just breaks up the yeast colonies and moves them around. Also, semen is very alkaline and the yeast like the alkaline environment.

As for your other question – if you have a yeast infection when you go into labor it is not the end of the world, but it’s much better to get rid of it now. The baby can pick it up on the way out, and also it weakens your tissues, making tearing more likely.

Good luck!

What could be the cause of recurring yeast infections that are hard to get rid of? I don’t have an STD. The doc had prescribed the pill that gets rid of yeast infections (can’t remember the name of it) and it didn’t work. I used Monistat-1 and that worked but the itching lasted a few more days. That was a month ago. Now the itching is back again. I have to urinate a lot as well. The doc had done a blood test a couple of months ago for diabetes and said I didn’t have it. Like I said, it’s not STD. What else could it be? I wonder if the doc could have been wrong about the diabetes. I seem to have excessive thirst and increased urination.

Have you checked your diet? As they say yogurt is really good for you and can help down there (eaten, not applied! lol), I think diets that are high in sugars and whatnot can sometimes help it happen. Also supposedly if a couple does it, uh, orally, that can lead to it.

And I dislike the Monistat single dose. It *does* take longer to actually feel improvement, like the rest of the week for me. I prefer the three dose.

What harm could a recurring yeast infection and BV do?

I don’t think it will necessarily hurt you, but it is a signal that something is wrong. There are health problems that cause chronic yeast infections that are dangerous. You should know if you have a dangerous condition. The yeast infection isn’t dangerous, but the problems that cause them can be. Also, make sure you aren’t washing your vagina with an antibacterial soap. That will disturb the balance and cause yeast infections.

I used t get yeast infection often after i stopped using my birth control pills. How can i prevet it from recurring?

Eat lots of yogurt with live active cultures or take acidophillus capsules daily. Do not douche or use soaps or feminine sprays in the vaginal area. The vagina is a self cleaning oriface. Only wear 100% cotton underwear (check your label). Do not sit around in a wet bathing suit and do not wear tight pants. Do not sleep with your underwear on. If you think you have an infection do not use tampons until you get the infection cleared up. Also remember that your partner may have it if you are sexually active but may not show symptoms so he may need to get checked out.

I am a 51 year old female. I have been having recurring yeast infections for the last 8 months. I have been using Miconazole. But a few days later it is back. I have Chrons Disease (Not under control). I am also a Diabetic (Not Insulin dependent. I take Asacol 1200 mgs 3 times a day. Prednisone 40 mgs a day. And ambien 10 mgs for sleep. Asprin for Artheritis. And a daily Multi Vitamin. A friend of mine told me about this site so I thought I would give it a try. And see if I can get some information.
Any advise on Yeast infections and or Chrons.
Thank you

Wow you have problems stacked on top of problems.
Candidiasis infections(Yeast Infections) can be recurring in people who are Diabetic. Also can be caused by your Prednisone. You should talk to your doctor about your yeast infections. And your Chrons not being controled. They have 2 medications that are approved for long term use for yeast infections. Posaconazole and Diflucan. They also have 2 new medications on the market for Chrons and Ulcerative Colitis.
Remicade and Advate. If your Chrons is not being controled by the Asocol. I would talk to your doctor about it.You can also eat yogurt, or drink Yoplait Smoothies to help with the yeast infections. Yougurt contains good bacteria that helps fight the bacteria from candidiasis. But you have to eat it on a daily bases for it to work. I have Ulcerative Colitis and my doctor took me off the Prednisone because my blood sugar was running high and put me on Entocort. Being a diabetic I would ask to be taken off the prednisone as it raises blood sugar. And can even induce Diabetis. Also check to see if your Multi Vitamin contains Yeast, some do and you want to avoid those that do. With the problems you have I would strongly suggest you see your doctor and talk to him about these problems. You can also find more information at either of these 2 sites. I use them all the time for referance.
www.medscape.com
www.webmd.com
I like Medscape the best and is easier for people who are not in the medical profession.
Also visit www.ccfa.org It is a web site for people who have Chrons and the colitis’s. You can get a lot of information on your Chrons at this site. And they have news letters.
Hope this helps.

Maybe I’m just get older, maybe I’m eating too much crap food… but my otherwise healthy nether regions have been suffering the creamy itchies a little too often lately (at least once a month). STD-free and sick of buying treatments, does anyone have any suggestions of what I may need to add or take away from my diet to keep it healthy and happy?

i went through a period of a few months where i had random yeast infections for no reason…have lots of yogurt!! it has something called lactobacillus acidophillus that restores the good bacteria down there that can fight the yeast. you can also go to any vitamin/supplement store or whole foods and buy the lactobacillus supplements if you don’t like yogurt…and good luck!
