puppy bit by older dog monday. having strange symptoms.?

My 8 week old beagle pup was bit in the eye on monday. we took her to the vet and he gave her 2 antibiotics, one is oral and the other is drops for her eye. she has been doing great, until tonight. she ate a lot and threw her food up, and is now refusing food or water. also her pee is thick and pus-like, as if she has a urinary tract infection or a yeast infection. she has an appointment first thing in the morning. should i wait to take her to the vet or call the emergency number? she is sleeping right now and has stopped throwing up for the moment.
i’ve given her water with an eye dropper and she has taken it well. good job with what nik4u?

Vomiting can be due to the antibiotics, or due to overeating – make sure you feed her every time you give oral antibiotics, but don’t ever-feed her.

If she’s resting comfortably at the moment, you can -probably- wait, but if in doubt, call the emergency vet. If she wakes up and is vomiting or seems to be in pain, take her to the emergency vet.

Since she’s so young and not eating, it’s easy for her to become hypoglycemic (low blood sugar). If she’s very lethargic, she may be hypoglycemic, and this is an emergency. Rub a but of corn syrup or sugar water on her gums, and take her to the vet immediately.

She may easily become dehydrated if she’s vomiting and not drinking. To check hydration, pull up some extra skin and release it; it should snap back quickly. If a ridge remains, she’s likely dehydrated. Feel her gums – they should be moist and not sticky; if they are sticky she’s dehydrated. Dehydration, especially in a puppy, requires IV or subcutaneous fluids. While you’re looking at her gums, they should be pink, not pale or white or bluish or muddy; if they are anything but pink consider taking her to the emergency vet.

If I have a yeast infection, will this yogurt help heal it?

I like this one :

http://www.astro.ca/products/fat_free.htm#

And I like the 175g Strawberry one, and these are the ingredients:

Strawberry
Skim milk (vitamin A palmitate, vitamin A (beta carotene), vitamin D3)*, strawberries, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, modified corn starch, gelatin, natural flavour, pectin, locust bean gum, potassium sorbate, sodium citrate, sucralose (21 mg), calcium phosphate, lemon juice concentrate, colour, active bacterial cultures (Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus bulgaricus)
*Made with vitamins A and D fortified skim milk

It says there’s lactobacillus bulgaricus, but it doesn’t say lactobacillus aciophillus…or something like that. Will this yogurt still work as effectively?
& Has yogurt ever helped your yeast infection?

Oh, and by the way, I’ve had this infection for a while, and before I had yogurt for like 2 weeks, and it only helped a little. Should I try again?

plain yogurt will ease the itch but you need to go get monistat 3 day therapy

Is there another way of treating a cat’s bacterial/ yeast infection besides drops?

My boyfriend’s cat was diagnosed with a bacterial yeast infection in his ears. We had thought the cat had mites and my bf couldnt keep up with the drops once a day (he’s very busy) so he took him to the vet to get rid of them in a one shot deal. However when he got to the vet’s it turned out it was a bacterial/ yeast infection which the vet said was worse. So my boyfriend went from not being able to apply mite drops once a day to being given medication & wash that he needed to do TWICE a day. Needless to say this was weeks ago and he probably only put the medicine in the cat’s ears about 4 or 5 times. I’ve tried doing it myself when I’m there but I’m not there enough to get the job done. I’m really worried about the cat as he’s shaking his head more. Is there another treatment for this & what can this problem lead to? I’m worried, but hoping there’s a shot for this?

OK, the cat NEEDS the treatment. If your boyfriend can’t do it, he can take the cat to the vet, pay to hospitalize it and they can clean and medicate the cat’s ears twice a day. It will be a hell of a lot more expensive… OR he can just suck it up and do it. Wrap the kitty in a thick fluffy towel so all of his feet are wrapped close to the body. This way he can’t scratch. Put the cleanser in the ear and massage the ear, let kitty shake head to throw some of the stuff out, wipe out with cotton ball, apply medication.

Without treatment, the infection could ge worse resulting in scarring of the ear canal, ear drum, move to an inner ear infection which is much harder to get rid of, lead to hearing loss, etc. If he can’t do it, he needs to let his vet do it.

Also, even if it’s a bacterial infection, antibiotics really aren’t the best way to go. Systemic antibiotics don’t really penetrate the ear that well, so ointments directly into the ear are the absolute best course of action, plus you aren’t killing off all the beneficial bacteria in your cat’s body leading to other problems.

Bronx ADOPTED!

Any women out there that has taken ketoconazole “nizoral” for yeast infection???

I went to the doctor on Thursday and he told me I had a lot of yeast in my body “bad yeast infection” So he gave me the prescription Ketoconazole 200mg with is genertic for Nizoral. If theres anyone out there that has taken this how long before you started to see the itchness and burning start to go away? He told me to use hydrocrozone cream to help with the itching but I can’t use it because it makes me burn and itch to a awful level and im already on that level and I wont be able to deal with it if it gets worser then it is. Thanks in advance

You should start to feel better in about a day. Yeast happens when your body loses the good bacteria, sometimes from antibiotic therapy. Eat some yogurt to put back good bacteria and hopefully allay future yeast infections.

how did women treat vaginal yeast infections BEFORE the pills?

how did people treat yeast infections 200 years ago? before there were pills and medications?
did they live with it for the rest of their lives? i don’t think so, because even having sex is painful with a yeast infection.
if they could treat it naturally, why doesn’t everyone?

That’s a good question. Most vaginal imbalances are capable of clearing themselves up without any medication, but these days I think people feel a need to medicate every little thing that feels wrong with them.

Things like yeast infections were also probably less common back then, because synthetic fabrics (that trap moisture and don’t allow skin to breathe), tight fitting clothing, etc. were all but non existent, as were feminine sprays and douches that came into being for women to make themselves supposedly smell better (but really cause more harm than good).

As for treating it naturally, yogurt, garlic, and certain herbs are effective.

Hope this helps :)

breastfeeding and medication?

I am a breastfeeding with 11 month old. I feel like I am starting to get a yeast infection. Are over the counter yeast medications OK while breastfeeding? It’s probably a stupid question but just wanted to be sure.

Also I have only had yeast infections while pregnant, AF is not due untill thursday, so possibly one on boob and one in belly!

OTC yeast treatments are fine.

as for the bun in oven idea, either wait and see or get a test. I find that summer always brings at least one yeast infection, so I would not worry too much. You really can’t compare your pre baby body chemistry to your mommy body chemistry.
