Yeast Infection Medication Archives

I will start an OTC yeast infection medication tomorrow (when I go to the store to get some!)

Is it OK to have sex while on it?
Will it be "gross" or what will happen??

Please, no rude comments.
Thanks

No, you should wait until you are through the entire dosage in the box, and then you should be sure that you are no longer still experiencing symptoms. They might even mention this in the instructions with the meds, you should check that out!

You can give your man a yeast infection… and it’s *a lot* worse for guys

a friend of mine just gave me monistat yeast infection medication and she doesnt have the box. it is new medication because she thought she had a yeast infection the week before but it turns out to be something else. and i dont know how to use it. any help? it has an agg looking thing and some cream.

Do you have the applicator, too? It looks like a little plunger. If you do, put the egg thing in the end of that and put it in like a tampon. If not, use your finger to push it in as far as you can. After that you should lay down to keep the medicine in you. It’s going to leak some, so wear a pad. The cream can be used twice a day on the outside to stop the itching.
Good luck!

There are basically 2 treatments of yeast infections that i know of: the Diflucan one dose pill and the Monistat insertion ovules. I was wondering if anybody has a certain preference because it works better. If you like the Monistat, do you like the one day dose, or the 3 day dose? I currently have a yeast infection and my doctor gave me a prescription for the Diflucan, but i couldn’t afford to buy it til i get paid Friday. so i bought the single dose Monistat and it doesn’t seem that it worked.

Yeast infections don’t go away easily; its one of the most annoying medical conditions one can have with numerous symptoms. Its difficult to treat since there is no universal candida yeast infection cure that works for everyone. Combine that with the fact that majority of people are looking for herbal, all natural treatments, and you are left with very few over the counter options.

One over the counter treatment for candida yeast infection that has become popular lately is Yeastrol. If you have never heard of a Yeastrol, here is a short intro.

Its an natural homeopathic relief formula which has shown to be very effective but a long term treatment approach is needed to get cured of yeast infection. Yeastrol works for mild & severe oral, penile, or vaginal yeast infection.

Which Medications to avoid:

An important thing that needs your attention if you are looking for male or female yeast infection treatment is that there are many products in the market claiming cure in hours or days. Avoid such marketing pitches, at most these claimed yeast infection cures can relieve you of your symptoms for a short period of time. And sooner than later Candida yeast infection returns with more severe symptoms or signs.

You may recognize a useless otc treatment for yeast infection by its boasts of being a natural yeast infection cure. There is no yeast infection medication currently available that is able to cure yeast infection in days. Cure for yeast infection is only possible with long term treatment which kills the root cause i.e. Candida Albicans.

I can’t tell whether or not I have a yeast infection. I’m a little itchy, but not like I usually am when I have a yeast infection. I tried to buy a tester kit at CVS, but they didn’t have any. I’d prefer to just take some Monistat just in case, but is that bad for me?

I wouldnt think it would hurt! Just in case i would wait to get a test first try walmart! 24hrs mostly!

I am looking for oral yeast infection medications that are available over the counter. I don’t have a regular doctor and do not have the time to go this week. Or, are there any non medicinal ways to treat a yeast infection. I started eating some yogurt and drinking cranberry juice. I have eaten a clove of garlic once before to get rid of a bladder infection. Does that work the same for yeast infection?

In relation to oral yeast medications like Diflucan and Nystatin, no they are not over the counter as of yet. The eating of the yogurt will help with treating the yeast infection. The reason it does is because it has good cultures called lactobacilli which helps keep the vagina and even the intestinal (yep, one can have a yeast problem in their intestines) tract running smoothly.

If you suspect that you have a yeast infection I would recommend seeing a dr to have them evaluate the situation before trying to self treat. If money is an issue check with the city health dept to see if they offer free health clinics. If not check with a Medical School if there is one close by. You can also ask the dr if they offer samples of the Diflucan to help cut on some of the cost of the medication.

I was prescribed pms-Fluconazole for a yeast infection (a pill you take once) and I took it on Tuesday. The package says that the symptoms should be gone within a couple days, and they are, but it does not say how long it takes to completely get rid of the infection. I know you shouldn’t have sex while you have a yeast infection so you don’t pass it back and forth and am wondering if I am clear for intercourse again or how long I should wait. Any advice would be great.

The information should come on the packaging or the instruction sheets for your prescription. You could always call the pharmacy- you don’t have to give your name, and they would be the best ones to answer that question. Or call your doctor. If it was me, I would definitly wait a week from the time I started the medicine. But I am not a doctor, I can’t give you the appropriate advice.

Why can’t you have sex while on yeast infection medication? What happens?

Because they medication needs to stay inside you to help you get over the infection. Sex can end up with more medication outside of you than inside. Also, you still have an infection and can pass it to your partner. This goes whether you are on a pill treatment or cream.

I had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy 10 days ago, I now have what I’m 99% sure to be a yeast infection. Can I use the usual medications to treat it? I’ve heard that you’re not supposed to put anything in the vagina until cleared?

Hi Andreah, My best advice to you is to use your common sense here…just call your doc. The doctor who performed your hysterectomy will be glad you called and they will let you know what is the safest bet. You have surely been put on an antibiotic from your surgery. This leaves your body low on healthy bacteria that usually would be eating the natural yeasts from the foods we eat. For now eat a yogurt (with active cultures) which contain a very small level of healthy bacteria, and call your doctor they will let you know what is right for you. Heres to the amazing ecosystem the human body!! Good luck.

I thought I had a yeast infection so last night I went to the store and bought an over the counter medication for yeast infections. When I woke up this morning my vagina including the inside was very swollen, red, and it’s starting to have a bloody wetness to it. Could this be an allergic reaction or do I need to go to the hospital? I do not have insurance so I can’t go to the doctor. What should I do?

I agree, it could be an allergic reaction. There are natural remedies for yeast infection that you can use that would be milder and safer in your case. If you still have bleeding after 1 or 2 days, I would surely go see a doctor. You can read up on natural yeast infection remedies if you go here…
