I had a yeast infection and didn’t know about and gave it to my husband. His penis is irritated and sore. How can he get rid of this? He already tried to use vagisil but it hasnt worked?
Apply an over the counter fungicide like Lamisil AT, Lotrimin AF, or Monostat Derm. Just about anything for "Jock Itch" should work – jock itch is a yeast infection. Don’t wash with antibacterial soap because it may inhibit the growth of friendly bacteria that keep yeast-like forms from multiplying.
Also do not have intercourse until both of you have completed your treatments. As you just found out, couples can pass the infection back and forth making it difficult to kill completely.
I have heard many sides to this tale. My main question is: Through unprotected sex, can a man give a woman a yeast infection or can a woman give a man a yeast infection. I have heard many sides, yes and No’s so I want to know the truth. My doctor said no unless the man is diabetic then I heard yes that a man could be a carrier for it but how? Could everyone just answer yes and no and an explanation. Thanks
YES, simplistically, men and women can transmit genital yeast infections to each other.
Lemme elaborate now…
It’s not news to anyone that women can get vaginal yeast infections. Duh. But yes, men can sometimes get genital yeast infections, too. It’s commonly called "jock itch" and there are some risk factors for it. Diabetes is one. Diabetics are more prone to yeast infections. Uncircumcised men (who don’t clean themselves properly!!!) are also more at risk because the yeast can get trapped under the prepuce and multiple. Yeast thrive in warm, moist environments, such as a smegma-stuffed foreskin. If a guy’s immune system is weak (from auto-immune disease or HIV infection), he is also likely to have yeast infections (on his genitals, or in his mouth).
If a guy does have a yeast infection, he can pass it to his girlfriend pretty easily if they have unprotected sex. It doesn’t usually do as well on a penis, but it can sure colonize happily in a vagina.
And if you were wondering what a yeast infection looks like on a man, it’s a reddish, itchy rash. It’s cured easily. Just wash with soap and water and use a little bit of anti-fungal cream or spray.
Yes, men can get a yeast infection on the penis. It is rare, but it can happen when the conditions are right for the fungus to overgrow.
There has never been any information stating that it would have any smell. In fact, the discharge that the penile yeast infection causes is usually odorless.
You should be wary though, as one of the more common symptoms is actually -nothing-. When this is the case, it can become too severe by the time visible symptoms emerge and it may too late to easily treat it.
Yeast infection in man can occur when the immune system is compromised, or when you engage in sexual intercourse with an infected partner. It can also occur when you use antibiotics as it kills the good bacteria which would otherwise hold the Candida (yeast) fungus back.

I recently had a yeast infection…… so I used monistat and I have another yeast infection. I was thinking maybe I was getting it from my husband.
Penile Yeast Infections
Also known as candidacies, a yeast infection is a fungal infection that can attack any part of the body that is routinely moist. Yeast organisms are a natural part of every human’s physiological ecosystem, and when something knocks this ecosystem out of balance and allows yeast to grow out of control, you end up with a yeast infection. While vaginal yeast infections are much more common than penile yeast infections, both conditions can be very painful and embarrassing.
Male Yeast Infection Causes
Sex: As with most fugal infections, this one can be spread by direct physical contact. If you or your partner has a yeast infection, it’s best to remain celibate until it has been cured or you can end up passing it back and forth. It can also be spread to your mouth (aka thrush) so just be very careful.
Nonoxynol-9: This is a common spermicide found in many contraceptive products. There is evidence that while this spermicide does kill sperm, it rapidly increases the growth of naturally occurring yeasts.
Diabetes: Yeast feeds on sugars; the elevated blood-sugar levels associated with diabetes are candy to yeast.
Antibiotics: As I mentioned earlier, yeasts are a naturally occurring part of the human physiological landscape. They are kept from growing out of control by other organisms that are also naturally occurring. Prolonged use of antibiotics can kill off all of the yeast-balancing organisms leaving lots of room for the yeast to grow.
Male Yeast Infection Symptoms
The symptoms of a male yeast infection can appear very similar to those of genital herpes. If you exhibit any of these symptoms, swallow your pride and go to your doctor. If you do have a yeast infection, the fastest method of getting rid of it is with oral antibiotics, which will require a prescription anyway.
The most common set of symptoms includes:
* Itchiness, redness, and/or soreness localized at the head of the penis
* Tiny, reddish bumps at the head of the penis
* White, clumpy discharge
Treating Male Yeast Infections
Since most yeast infections are the result of an imbalance in the body’s physiology that allows the naturally occurring yeast to grow out of control, the most effective remedies are oral antibiotics which correct the imbalance from the inside-out. The most commonly prescribed medications are Divulging (falcons) and Numeral (console) which attack the yeast directly.
Topical treatments include the application of over the counter vaginal yeast infection creams like Monist-at-7 directly to the penis. Due to the internal nature of male yeast infections, these treatments arena’t always effective, so if you don’t see improvement within the first few days, go see your doctor.
Can a man get a yeast infection on his penis if he had sex with a woman who has a yeast infection? If so….what would happen and what would the symptoms be?
A man can most certainly get a yeast (fungal) infection on his penis. This is however very rare for circumcised men but fairly common for uncircumcised ones as the foreskin provides the warm, moist, dark place in which a fungus thrives.
He can catch it from an infected woman and can easily pass it to any woman with whom he has sex. It is important therefore that both partners be treated for fungal infections at the same time and they have no sex until both are clear of infection. There are anti-fungal creams as well as drugs for persistent cases.
Men can get yeast infections along their genitals from sexual contact with a female who has a yeast infection. It is also possible for men to get yeast infections in their mouths from giving an infected female oral sex. The symptoms are usually redness and itching in the area.

Good luck!
And if yes, then how?
(What they eat, drink, do, etc.)
Short answer is YES, they can. They can get it from simply taking some antibiotics which kill off their oral flora.
They can also get it from doing oral sex on another person who has the infection whether its male or female.
Treatment is they have to go get some medication. What they eat, drink, etc has little bearing on whether they get the infection or on its course.
I got a yeast infection a couple of days ago around the same time I had sex… I hear men don’t get affected by it and something like 10-12% get a rash on their penis? Anyways is it necessary to tell the guy I have one?
Well I keep hearing yeast infections are NOT sexually transmitted though.
They can carry it and give it to other partners. It is possible that he gave you the infection. There is medicine that he can take to clear it up so he doesn’t pass it on to anyone else. You should see a doctor for antibiotics.
If men can get them on their own – what are some reasons ? Would being a diabetic be one of them ?
Would a man who has been diabetic for a long long long time – have yeast infections – or is that unusual .?
Yes men can get yeast infections on there own, they just aren’t as common as females. They are caused by the yeast that is naturally present in the body to overgrow. And yes diabetes is a factor that can increase the chances of getting yeast infections due to the high levels of sugar in the urine. So the diabetic you speak of is at greater risk for a yeast infection than a non-diabetic.
