Yeast Infection Men Archives

I keep getting yeast infections even though I’m taking all the prevention measures that I can. Could he be carrying it?

Yes he could be carrying it, particularly if he isn’t circumcised. In men, it’s called smegma and is much more easily treated than in women, for obvious reasons. He has to use soap and water, move the foreskin back and clean the glans and fold of skin. An antibiotic cream wouldn’t hurt, either. You need to take your own preventive measures. Next time you get ready for sex, skin his foreskin back and sniff it. If you wouldn’t put it in your mouth, don’t put it where you can’t rinse and spit.

Yes, and men can give it to women. If you don’t treat it properly, you will both end up passing it back and forth to each other. Sex can also be a little uncomfortable and less pleasurable if you have a yeast infection and probably even worsen the symptoms.

men don’t actually "get" a yeast infection… the bacteria are transferred to a mans penis and can stay there… therefore if your girl has been treated for a yeast infection and you haven’t then next time you have intercourse you will be putting that bacteria right back into her body… if she gets treatment you should too… the best way to treat both of you is for her to use the cream inside herself and then have intercourse… it will dispurse the medicine onto both of you.

My bf has symptoms of yeast infection (red tip kinda itchy) and we think that could be the problem. However, although we have unprotected sex (no condom), and we thought i would be then the source of the infection…. I have not had yeast infection in years! I only had it once, years ago. Questions> How could he have it if I dont? and maybe could it be that is NOT yeast infection but an irritation? what possibly could it be?

Yeah I know a guy that happened to my friend it is like jock itch.

Im a dirty boy. =(

You will have an itch and a white cheesy substance on your little dirty thing. Its very contagious.

I’ve heard that men can take Diflucan. But that’s a prescription.
I have no personal experience with this, however, I do know that the body needs certain organisms. Women tend to get yeast infections from taking antibiotics, because it kills all bacteria, and there are actually good bacterias that should not be killed, thus the yeast infection.
I know that you can prevent yeast infections, and intestinal infections by increasing your intake of good bacterial organisms, I don’t know if you get rid of a yeast infection this way, but maybe it’s worth a shot to you.
Cultured Milk (Kefir) It’s thick, and sort of bitter.
Dannon has a new yogurt in green containers "Activa" it’s marketed for intestinal health.
Yoplait yogurt has a high content of active cultures.
Go to a health food store, or a place to buy vitamins, and get Acidophilus.
Whatever you do, I wish you luck, but I’d just go to a doctor.

What is the likelyhood that a man has a yeast infection in the urethral tract? After seeing a couple of girlfriends developing this after dating them may lead a guy to think that he might be the one spreading?

if you have sexual relations with some one that has a yeast infection you will get it and spread it,i have also heard of uncircumsized men having this from not keeping their tips clean!(head)

Do Guys Get Yeast Infections?

Obviously, guys don’t get vaginal yeast infections. But balanitis (pronounced: bal-uh-nie-tis), an infection of the head of the penis, can be caused by the same candida that causes infections in girls. Guys who have diabetes are more prone to this infection. A guy who gets balanitis may not have any symptoms or the tip of the penis may become red and sore or itchy. Some guys might have a slight discharge as well.

Guys who are not circumcised need to take extra care to clean properly beneath their foreskins. The warm, moist folds of the foreskin are the perfect environment for yeast infections to thrive. Keeping the area clean and dry may help prevent an infection, but if symptoms do show up, a trip to the doctor will solve the problem.

If a man got a yeast infection could they pass it to their partner while having sex?
Are there any ways to get rid of it without going to the doctors?
Well since i had my son, my boyfriend and i have been passing it back and forth. I keep getting treated for it, and he was until he lost his health insurance.
Could i just buy Monistat and have him use the cream that it comes with, or should he use some triple antibiotic cream?
I have a doc’s appointment tomorrow, but i really don’t want to keep getting it again and again and again. Its a pain in the butt!!!

Hello Kasmira,

Yes, men can get it and it’s not as common as when it occurs in women, but it is probably due to deeper reasons than just having the yeast present.

Answering your question with the straight answer as fast as possible; yes, there is way to cure it without having to go to the doctor, and it seems to even be the better way. (as you will find in the source website linked below)

Yeast is present in EVERYONE, and it’s perfectly healthy; but when it overgrows, that’s when it becomes a yeast infection.

For men, the problem would usually be that the body is unable to fight the yeast infection, and it’s usually caused by other factors other than just being exposed to the yeast that you have – because a man’s resistance to yeast is usually strong enough to not have it grow.

Monistat only kills the yeast fungus directly and it doesn’t fix what caused it in the first place. In this case, it is his lowered resistance to the yeast fungus, and it would simply overgrow again and may even eventually develop a resistance to Monistat.

Once you fix the root cause, he won’t be the one spreading it to you anymore, because the yeast will not even be able to overgrow (into a yeast infection), and he won’t have it.

The website has all the details.

Additional note:

Antibiotics are actually listed as a CAUSE of the yeast infection, so it’s probably a no no. It is not the right cure for this in this case. That’s just a little tip in case you’re going to use that.

And how often do MEN mistake gonorrhea for merely a yeast infection? If you are a doctor will you tell me how often you see male patients with yeast infections and what are the symptoms that they have?
I am not asking this for myself…I am a women!

It’s possible for a man to contract a genital yeast infection if he has unprotected sexual intercourse with a partner who has a genital yeast infection. However, just because your girlfriend has a yeast infection doesn’t mean you will get one too. Sexual transmission of yeast infections is uncommon.

Some men with gonorrhea may have no symptoms at all. However, some men have signs or symptoms that appear two to five days after infection; symptoms can take as long as 30 days to appear. Symptoms and signs include a burning sensation when urinating, or a white, yellow, or green discharge from the penis. Sometimes men with gonorrhea get painful or swollen testicles

Symptoms of Male yeast Infection
Irritation / soreness on the head of the penis
Reddish rash / itching on the head of the penis
Small blisters on the head and shaft
Rash that spreads into the groin and anus with itching and irritation.
Clumpy discharge from the penis.
