Yeast Infection Problem Archives

I thought I had a yeast infection, so I went to the docs to make sure that’s what it was. The doctor examined me, and agreed that’s what she thought it was, but they’re also looking into STD’s and UTI’s as well (it won’t be an STD as my bf has been overseas for a while, and I was tested for std’s after he left).

Anyway, the doctor gave me a prescription for diflucan (or something like that) and its an oral pill you take once to kill the yeast infection.

I got the pill today, took it about 7 hours ago. But now I’m noticing another really annoying symptom. My one eye hurts, and it feels as though there is something in it – but there isn’t. I read some where that Candida can also infect the eye, so i’m guessing this is what it is. Does anyone have experience with this? Will the pill I took kill the thing in my eye? Will it eventually get better on its own, or do I need to go back to the docs for another medication? Is there anything I can do tonight to make my eye more comfortable?

Sorry – lots of questions. Thanks in advance…

Candida can indeed infect the eye and is called keratits which affects the cornea of the eye. It is very irritating and makes one feel eye pain, watering, sensitivity to light, feels like a cut, grit in the eye and so forth. However let me caution you…Karatitis is very very rare and has generally been related to a contact lens use most recently. As you may recall there was an outbreak of this condition and a recall of certain types and brands of contact lenses. This no longer seems to be a problem:

{(Based on this scientific and epidemiological data suggesting that ReNu with MoistureLoc may increase susceptibility to Fusarium , Bausch & Lomb has decided to permanently remove the ReNu with MoistureLoc product worldwide. FDA supports this decision. To date, data available do not indicate a problem with ReNu MultiPlus or ReNu Multi-Purpose or generic brands of this contact lens cleaning solution. "May 15, 2006")}.

There are also different kinds of fungal karatitis, 2 of them of sexual orientation and the other generally seen from plant and animal origin.

Having noted that this condition is extremely rare, let me caution you that it is difficult to treat. It must be treated by an ophthalmologist and will not be cleared up by the diflucan oral medication that you are currently taking for your vaginal yeast infection. Keratitis requires, antibiotics, antibacterial medication, eye drops, steroids and so on to ensure a return to ophthalmalgic health.

If your eyes are feeling irritated try some home remedies:

*Make concentration of strong tea and boiling water, wait until it’s not too hot soak a cotton wool pad and apply on the infected area.
*Soak a cloth with Aloe Vera and place it over the eyes.
*Mix 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda in 1/2 cup of water. Use as an eyewash.
*Put warm tea bags on the eyes.
*Apply warm, moist compresses several times a day for treating the infection for at least 10 minutes each time.
*A cold compress.
*Be sure and rest your eyes by sleeping or keeping them closed. Either a home eye wash or commercial one will help sooth your eye and moisten it.

If your eye persists with troublesome symptoms, particularly, pain and blurred vision, set up an appointment with preferably an ophthalmologist rather then an optician or optomitrist.

Good Luck

my bassett hound suffers with ear infections that his vet can not seem to clear up. Not only is my fella in pain he smells to high heaven. I need to know if there is anything I can do at home for this? Help please

Give him plain yogurt with his food. About 1 cup/day. That worked for our dalmation.

I don’t have any idea about your problem. However, I came across a blog about yeast infection. Hope you find your answer there.

Last Tuesday I had sex…we used a condom brand that i have never used before and no lubricant (I usually use some sort of KY and Trojans). That same day my vagina was sore. The next day, Thursday, I woke up and was feeling very itchy and red in my genital area. Friday the symptoms went away and I felt better. Saturday they came back and bought some Monistat (because whatver is going on feels exactly like a yeast infection). Problem is, two days into my monistat treatment (I’m on the 3 day) and I’m still itching and red. Do any std’s cause these types of symptoms?

It is possible that you may have a bacterial infection which can cause redness and itching. I just got this cleared up with my gynecologist. The doctor can check you out for stds, yeast infections, and bacterial infections, with a quick look down there and a swab. Your best bet is to see your gynecologist. Good Luck!

I have a really bad yeast infection for almost 4 years and there is no medicine that make it go away. Does anyone had the same problem and no a medicine that can help me? I have tried all kinds of medicine, doctors have giving me everything and nothing works in the exams always comes out Candida Albican what means an yeast infection. I have this problem for years. I dont know what to do anymore please help!!!!

I suggest checking out your diet. It may be that you are feeding the little buggers with what you eat. A diet high in simple carbs and sugar can make a yeast infection worse. If you have been on antibiotics they will also mess up your bacteria balance. It can take a year to get your body back in balance after taking antibiotics. Acidopholis can help get the yeast under control. You can get pills from the pharmacy, or you can just eat yogurt with live and active cultures.

Also, your doc should check your blood sugar. If you have had a yeast infection for 4 years then it is quite possible your blood sugar is too high and that is what is feeding the yeast.

If the yeast is only in your privates, then don’t douche. Douching kills off the bad and the good. Beneficial bacteria live all over us and they eat the bad bacteria and the yeast. But if you wash them away they can’t do their job.

My question is more of seeing if the man is cheating or not. If the woman has had no problems with a yeast infection and starts having sex with her man, after with holding for a little over a month, and she ends up with a yeast infection. Could he have slept with another woman, then slept with someone else to give them the first yeast infection? Does that make sense? Please let me know what you think! Thanks!

no. yeast infections aren’t sexually transmitted.

I have been put on antibiotics for a URI and now I feel like I may be started to get a yeast infection.. Problem is, my boyfriend is coming to town today so i really don’t want to use any of the OTC creams or suppositories! Is there a pill over the counter to take? I know that you can get one with a prescription but I am really not trying to go back to the Dr! Its just starting so what can I do to stop it now?? Thx

Before he gets there, pack it well with plain yogurt and rinse it with vinegar and water.

I am having a problem with what I originally thought to be a yeast infection, but now am not so sure! It started off with that uncomfortable feeling that you get with a yeast infection, however now I have what seems to be a rash on one side of the lip of my vagina. It is swollen and inflamed and REALLY sore. I think it may have some little white spots too! It hurst really badly and won’t stop or go away! We had sex the night before this started. It has been since Tuesday. last Tuesday!
I am married and I have been tested since then which was 2 years ago, and have not done ANYTHING with anyone other than my husband! So, if it is an STD, how did I get it? To my knowledge he has not done anything with anyone else, but I have never had this problem before!
I am freaking out and I can’t tell him because he will immediately accuse me of cheating? (He is that type of guy, not OMG how are you, but OMG how could you do that?) I have to know what is going on before I say anything to him.
It is officially really red and does have white spots on it, I think it’s kind of oozy. It really really hurts to pee, but I think it is because it’s raw fromt he rash type thing!
And as for the people saying run to the doctor, the reason I am asking on here is so I can decide which doctor to go to and have an idea of what they might say! Our family doctor is my husband’s cousin! Which poses a problem, because they talk and it’s a small town with no other doctors to choose from! I will have to try and get in with my obgyn whic is an hour away and always takes a while to get in!
Also, I want to know somewhat what it may be because I don’t want to loose it totally in the docotrs office if they say an std, or whatever, because that means my husband has to have been cheating on me, right?!

WOAH. Don’t jump to conclusions like some of these other people have.

Your husband may have not cheated on you, and you may not have an std.

To be honest, it sounds like a bacterial infection of some sort. I would go to your regular family doctor to find out what it is if you do not want to wait on your OB.

If you do find out that it is an std, then yes, obviously he has been cheating on you. I would kick him to the curb and confront him about it AFTER going to the doctor and making sure it is an std.

But to be honest, don’t think it is. Again, seems like a bacterial infection. I don’t want to sound gross or anything, but having anal sex and not cleaning before inserting into vagina can cause bacterial infections. Or, if your husband isin’t the cleanest down in his "area", it could cause a bacterial infection as well.

I have a problem……
I took some antibiotics about a week ago to treat tonsilitis, and now I think that I have a yeast infection. The only problem is my vag is super small/tight and nothing can go up there. plungers and stuff are out of the question as might be pills. Is there anything I can do at home that will get rid of this? i need help, im very uncomfortable here!!
people suggest yogurt- how much do i need to eat? and when will it start to get better?

i have infact had this infection and here are some ways to help it go away

Step 1 Eat yogurt. It contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that destroy yeast. It also works when applied topically. Insert some into the vagina using a finger or plastic tampon applicator. Use only plain yogurt with active cultures.

Step 2 Take lactobacillus/acidophilus supplements. Use according to the directions on the bottle.

Step 3 Douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.

Step 4 Decrease or eliminate sugar and sugary foods. Sugar promotes yeast growth.

Step 5 Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent. Peel a fresh clove, wrap it in gauze and insert it into the vagina.

Step 6 Try gentian violet. It’s a traditional remedy for yeast and other infections, and can be found in pharmacies. Swab the area with it once or twice a day. Make sure to use a thick pad – it stains everything.

Step 7 Use an herbal douche. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with cider vinegar.

Step 8 Use an over-the-counter yeast infection remedy. Apply as directed.

i think i have a yeast infection down there. I have this yucky sticky discharge. it is really thick. it looks like boogers( sorry too much detail). it is kind of see through. it is also very itchy down there. i looked in my mums cabinate and she has this cream thing. its called Canesten ( i live in australia so it might be different brands). it says Bifonazole Anit Fungal body cream. it says you can use it for ring worm, jock itch, yeast infectins of the skin ( what dooes it mean by ‘ of the skin’ ), tinea and athlete’s foot.

Should i start using it? it is my mums so if i use it would it be un-hygienic since she has put her finger on there and then on her foot or whatever because i think she just has this foot problem not a yeast infection down there.

what should i do????she doesn’t know and i am too scared to tell her…

Only a doctor can tell for sure if you have a yeast infection by taking a swab and run some tests. Most of us can sometimes tell by the feel, look, and smell that you have a yeast infection. If your symptoms don’t match this list, or you are confused or uncertain, go see your doctor if at all possible.

It feels like an intense itching, burning sensation, localized in your vagina and vulva. This itching is not always present, but can get really bad, so bad you can hardly walk, let alone sit still or concentrate on anything.

It looks like clumpy white stuff. Most medical descriptions compare the discharge to ricotta cheese, but it can range from thick and not clumpy to faintly yellow to thin and clear.

It smells like bread or beer. In fact, it smells pretty much exactly like yeast.

There are other types of infections that can sometimes infect your vagina and vulva and it’s helpful to know the symptoms of all of them so you can be really sure before you go treat yourself for a yeast infection you might not have.

A bacterial infection of the vagina can feel a lot like a yeast infection if the vulval area is itchy or painful. Unlike a yeast infection, the discharge can be dark yellow, green, or brown and it won’t smell like bread, it can smell like fish or something rotting. If you think you might have a bacterial infection, or if you’re not sure, get I would recommend going to see your doctor as this has to be treated with prescription antibiotics.

Urinary tract infections (UTI’s) are due to bacteria infecting the urethra rather than the vagina. UTI’s can be fairly easily distinguished from vaginal infections by a host of symptoms, including pain or burning when urinating, blood or mucus in urine, needing to urinate often, pain or pressure in back or lower abdomen and a fever or chills. If you think you might have a UTI, don’t delay, go see your doctor, because the infection can travel up past the bladder, causing kidney damage.

Another type of infection called trichomoniasis is caused by a parasite that can infect both the vagina and the urinary tract, and is primarily sexually transmitted. If you have a trichomoniasis infection, your vagina can be itchy or painful, it can hurt to urinate, intercourse can be painful, and occasionally you can experience pain in your lower abdomen. Again, you have to see a doctor to get antibiotics to treat this.

I would recommend you see your doctor just to rule out any other infections and to get a proper diagnosis and proper treatment.

Good luck :)
