Yeast Infection Rash Archives

visually what is the difference

well, MT got it right about the description.

However, yeast infections can occur on more than the genitals. You can have a systemic infection, a blood infection, skin, genital, oral (thrush), anal, and there are others. I believe there are 7 different kinds of yeast infections.

My son had one (a very bad one) when he was an infant. Basically, if you have treated the rash for a few days with diaper rash cream and it is not getting better, or maybe even getting worse…then it is probably a yeast infection.

The doctor ordered some medicine by mouth and Lotrimin. I noticed an improvement within 24 hours.

How can you tell the difference in the two? My two year old’s bottom is a little bit red with tiny red bumps all over it. Diaper rash ointment doesn’t seem to be working. could she have a yeast infection?

Yes she could indeed have a yeast infection. Take her to the pediatrician and get some Oxistat cream. It may also be an allergy….. talk to your pediatrician.

What does it look like? Is it only near the vagina opening, or can it be up near the hip bone/inner thigh?

sounds like you might have Jock itch (or ringworm – same thing… it’s known as many different names.) go to your doctor, or do some research on skin problems.

Yeast infections don’t leave a rash of any kind… it’s all internal.

Are you sexually active? If so, you really need to get to the doctor, to determine that it’s not an STD of some kind. If you have one, you need to get your partner tested as well.

Good luck!

She has had a really bad diaper rash just on her front, not on her bottom at all, it is really red and feels rough to the touch. Usually Desitin works on her pretty good but not this time. Could she have a yeast infection and can I just put Vagisil or one of those kinds of creams on her? she is only 9 mos. old.

I feel like I should have posted this same question a week ago. Very similar….I have an 8 month old son, never had bad diaper rash until about 2 weeks ago. Pimples and redness all over his crotch, then it spread to his legs, and up his belly. NOTHING WAS WORKING….Until I went to the pediatrician. She suggested about 1/2 cup to 1 cup of baking soda in his bath (everyday for a week) and then use over the counter athletes foot cream (I know…but it’s safe and works!) called Latrimin (I would have to look at the correct spelling). Also, use petrolium jelly that is really thick. Don’t use wipes because that can make it worse. Instead fill up a warm bowl of water and use a wash cloth to clean her after every diaper change. Be sure to pat her dry really well. After about 2 days, I noticed a difference in the pimples, then the color faded, then it was gone in one week.

Ok, I have heard good and bad about yogurt. Also I have heard that you should apply it then I heard you should eat it. Can you please help clear it up? Should I apply yogurt to a diaper rash area, or should I feed her yogurt? I do not want to put yogurt on her and then find out she was supposed to eat it. Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks so much. I believe in home remedies that is why I am asking. It is much cheaper and usually more effective then going to doctor.

Unless the rash has been diagnosed as a yeast infection the yogurt will not be beneficial in clearing it up. Yogurt can help with some yeast infections, but not all. You can eat it, but if your daughter is younger than 9 months you probably won’t want to have her eat it. There have been some studies that have shown limited success with putting yogurt directly on the yeast infection that is in the diaper or vaginal area. You have to read the label of the yogurt carefully as it must contain live cultures in order to be effective. It is very helpful to use cotton cloth diapers instead of disposable diapers and keep the diaper changed frequently. Candida, the organism that causes yeast infections, really likes moist environments. My youngest daughter had frequent yeast infections as an infant, before she was old enough to eat yogurt. We used nystatin with her and that worked very well to clear it up. However, whether you use a prescription medication or a natural alternative, it can take several weeks and as long as a month before you see significant improvement. We had to let our daughter lie around naked a good part of the time and before we put her cloth diaper back on, we’d put on the nystatin then cover it liberally with Desitin. When she was a bit older, our doctor suggested giving her yogurt, but it didn’t really clear it up any faster for her. However, my 93 year old grandma, who is very much into natural remedies, regularly eats live culture yogurt and puts it on when she has a yeast infection. I figure she’s 93 and pretty healthy and spry so I eat yogurt, too, but I’ve never had a yeast infection. ADDED: Diaper rash and yeast infection can look similar, so you may need to still take your little one to the doctor for a proper diagnosis. Desitin or other OTC diaper rash creams alone will not touch a yeast infection.

Well. Not really an infection I dont think he said. But he gave me some prescription cream to put on his rash. Its right above his peepee. I have been putting Destin on it. But now I have to switch. He said its from lots of moisture. . Anyone else been through this?

This might help with moms who cant get rid of their babies diaper rash. It may have led to a yeast rash and needs a more powerful cream! My sons hasnt been there that long. Maybe a week.
I do change his diaper you f*cker. My mom actuallys watches him 9 hours a day during the week!
I am just going to try and use the prescription cream he gave me. Just was wondering if anyone else has been through this. Thanks!
He has very sensitive skin. I cant use johnson & johnson products. I have to use dove wash & eucerin lotion.

Baby yeast infections generally have nothing to do with the frequency that the diaper is changed. So don’t feel bad! My 14 month old gets awful yeast infections, and we take her to the Dr., who gives us a refill on the prescription cream. When she has one, we let her go without her diaper for periods of time (so she can air out).

Another thing to consider is that when you wipe a child with a baby wipe, you’re leaving a wet film behind . . . perfect breeding ground for yeast. This sounds stupid, but our Dr. told us it would help to "blow dry" the hiney with a hair dryer (**obviously using a cool shot**). It just takes a second to get the area dry.

Feeding the baby yogurt, if he’s old enough, will also help. The good bacteria in the yogurt will kill the yeast.

Best of luck! And don’t listen to the people who say you’re not taking care of your child. Even the best parents in world have children who get yeast infections. And don’t worry, even though it’s frustrating, it will get better. And sorry for the long answer, but I hope it helps!

a mom and daycare director mentioned this to me today. she said that her pediatrician told her that monostat is the same as the nystatin cream that drs prescribe for babies’ yeast infections/diaper rashes.

anyone else hear of this??

and yes, i will consult my ped before using it…..
just waiting for them to call back.

thanks!

My daughter was on antibiotics and got a diaper rash. The nystatin made it worse. I took it upon myself to try Monistat and I swear by it. I use the equate from Walmart. I would definately recommend it. Bout half the cost of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste.

my 19 month old daughter has a yeast infection which stemmed from a diaper rash and became open sores (from being rubbed by diaper) i was told by the doctor that when teething, childrens poop becomes more acidic and can cause conditions like this, he put her on two creams. anyways i watch a little boy at my house who is about 2 months younger (im pretty sure he’s teething) he’s had a nasty diaper rash which started yesterday. his mother just called me and asked if what my daughter has can be passed to her son by saliva or something. i told her i’ve never heard of a little boy getting a yeast infection because they are not sexually active my point is there is no way that my daughter could have passed on her yeast infection or diaper rash to him is there??? i don’t use the same wipes on both of them and i wash my hands my daughters condition has basically cleared. this is a hard job to have if you can’ t tell im the center of blame for everything thanks for any advice

There is no possiblility of your daughter giving this little boy a yeast infection or a diaper rash! Dont let this other parent think you did something wrong or let them make you feel bad because of it! There are many different causes of diaper rash examples: a new food, too much juice causing the urine to be more acidic, food allergy, sitting in a wet diaper longer than normal, diahrea, teething, sensitive skin, viral infection, ect. My son always had a diaper rash b/c he had really sensitive skin! You are right about the childrens fecies being too acidic and causing diaper rash. My ped’s dr told me that diaper rash is a form of yeast infection and that using a over the counter yeast infection cream like Monostat (clotrimozole) will clear up the rash…and it always did in a matter of a couple of days! Anytime I sensed a rash coming on I would use the monostat on his bottom and it was gone before it started! Just keep the area clean and dry and this will help with making it worse! AND dont let this other mother make it your fault for her kids diaper rash! If she has a problem with it she should talk it over with her dr! Good luck!

Can women’s over the counter yeast infection medication be used on toddler diaper rash yeast infection?

yes! it can be use!

but if you really want to get rid of yeast infection forever then you must follow these tips:

1) Eat yogurt!!!! It contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that destroy yeast. Use only plain yogurt with active cultures.

2) Douche with a solution of 1 to 3 tbsp. vinegar in a quart of water. Repeat once a day while having symptoms, but no longer than a week.

3) Decrease or eliminate sugar and sugary foods. Sugar promotes yeast growth.

4) Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent.

5) Try gentian violet. It’s a traditional remedy for yeast and other infections, and can be found in pharmacies. Swab the area with it once or twice a day. Make sure to use a thick pad – it stains everything.

6) Use an herbal douche. Combine equal amounts of sage, raspberry and comfrey with 1/4 part goldenseal. This can be combined with cider vinegar.

7) You must use herbal treatment. In that case Yeastrol is really good (probably the best) product that gets rid of yeast infection comparatively fast and makes you feel more confident knowing that it wont reappear again!
And of course it is better if you use full course (5 months – if I remember correctly). For me it worked very fast + I dont get yeast infections anymore…

I do not know if any pharmacies carry Yeastrol but I do know that you should purchase it directly from the manufacturer and read more about the product here http://www.yeastrol.com/?aid=221781

good luck!

Working in women’s health – Gynecologist + personal experience

My Daughter Is 1 year old, Recently (about a month or two ago) she got a diaper rash infected by candida (yeast) The Doctor prescribed Nystatin, it worked after about a week but it didn’t clear it up all the way. After a few weeks it pretty much disappeared. Today during her afternoon nap, I heard her play for a few minutes. I didn’t go get her out because shortly she fell asleep. It turns out she had made a bowel movement during her "play time" before her nap and she slept for about an hour to two hours in her stool and urine. When I changed her diaper I saw her diaper area full of red, swollen skin, just like the first infection, but now more widespread and a little worse. I was asking my mother what to do, she said no wipes, just put her in the bath between diaper changes, put a little baking soda in the water and wash her off. The Thing i’m worried about is, with letting her go without her diaper as much as i can, and giving her those quick baths between diapers, can this help enough to clear it up a bit? and what would you recommend using as in medicine?
She is breast fed*
She Does it food like adults*
She only has a few fold in the skin, most of it is entirely exposed, the worst part of the rash is in the crack of her behind, and right on top of the vaginal area.
****to brilliantbrunette***

You cannot use vagisil on babies.
They are FAR to delicate for that.

Consult with your doctor first… But my daughter had a bad diaper rash when she was 10 months old and the pedi recommended Hydrocortizone 1% and Anti-fungus cream (used for athletes foot). Mix a dab of both creams and put it in the affected area twice a day (day and night).
You will see results immediately. Since then I’ve never used over the counter baby rash creams.
