Dietary advice for curing candida (yeast infection)?

I’ve just finished a long course of antibiotics and have been warned that because of my compromised immune system, I’m likely to end up with candidiasis. I’ve already started to show symptoms but have heard that eating certain things can help, such as natural yoghurt. Is there anything else I can try?

It is always best to start these natural methods when you start on antibiotics. Cranberry Juice, yogurt, acidophilus pills (the active pro-biotic in yogurt) are also available. As a diabetics I am used to these infections. most of the time these things help me prevent a yeast problem, but often I have to take one prescription Diflucan. that takes care of it.
I have also found it helpful to wear loose fitting, white-colored only, cotton-only undergarments. yeast thrives in warm, moist, poorly aired areas.

Constant urge to urinate-tested no UTI/STD what could it be please HELP? yeast infection?

I posted this in another forum but thought it would be good under womens health as well. Below is what i posted….
I went to dr yesterday and was tested for UTI/STD and came out with nothing. I have been taking those uti pills they sell at the drug store to stop the urgency feeling but they do not help at all. I feel helpless and in pain. the doctor said that it was anxiety and that really upset me because I know the pain i am feeling. I have had uti’s before and they feel like this but my urine test yesterday was negative…i do have a yeast infection but she did not treat me for that as i didnt mention it because i forgot. could it be a result of the yeast infection? i have had these for 30+ years as I am only 34 but have always lived with them but now they seem worse and nothing helps….
anyone have any suggestions?
i am in pain and hate this feeling of having to urinate, go and there is nothing.
any assistance, ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I would not write off your symptoms to anxiety.

It is possible your yeast infection could be causing pain. Try getting an over the counter treatment like Monistat and see if that clears up your symptoms. Otherwise, I would consider seeing a different doctor.

Other conditions that can mimic UTI’s:

Vaginitis- Vaginitis is a common vaginal infection that can be caused by a fungus (candidiasis) or bacteria. Occasionally, the infection causes frequent urination, mimicking cystitis (UTI). The typical symptoms of vaginitis are itching and an abnormal discharge.

Interstitial Cystitis- Interstitial cystitis (IC) is an inflammation of the bladder wall that occurs almost predominantly in women. The average age of patients with IC is 40, but 25% of cases occur in women under 30. Symptoms are very similar to cystitis (UTI), but no bacteria are present. Pain during sex is a very common complaint in these patients, and stress may intensify symptoms.

Yeast Infection Natural Cures Can End All Your Discomfort Forever

In reality, a healthy vagina has a pleasant lightly musky odor, the chemicals these feminine product makers sell can mask changes in that odor. This isn’t good, because changes in scent may be a sign of infection. These chemicals can also be harmful, causing irritation of the skin, mucous membrane, and throwing off the ph balance of the vagina. Douching is unnecessary and potentially harmful, unless it’s used as a method for treating problems such as yeast infection symptoms.

Most vaginal infections in women are due to bacterial vaginosis, trichomoniasis, or yeast. However, there may be other causes as well. Such as allergies, things that cause irritation, and/or other STDs. Non-infectious allergic symptoms can be caused by spermicides, vaginal hygiene products, detergents, and fabric softeners. Cervical inflammation from these products often is associated with abnormal vaginal discharge, but appropriate diagnostic tests can distinguish this kind of vaginal discharge from true vaginal infections.

The fungus that lives in natural balance in our bodies is called Candida albicans. Candida is found mostly in the intestines, genital tract, mouth, and throat. When this delicate balance is upset, infection results. This is known as Candidiasis and the fungus travels to all parts of the body through the bloodstream. When it overgrows in the mouth, it is called thrush. When it overgrows in the vagina, it is called a genital yeast infection. Yeast candida overgrowth affects both females and males but is rarely transmitted sexually. Women with diabetes have more genital yeast infections because their vaginal environment tend to promote yeast growth.

A weakened immune system has been linked to the causes of the Candidiasis. A change in diet and/or nutritional habits can also cause an imbalance of yeast. The overuse of broad spectrum antibiotics, such as tetracycline and/or penicillin can suppress and even kill beneficial bacteria. This beneficial bacteria, such as acidophilus and lactobacillus are vital to the genital tract. When this beneficial bacteria is out of balance it creates an environment where yeast can multiply and go unchecked. There are other underlying factors, such as Diabetes, that are believed to possibly be the root cause of Yeast Infections.

A genital yeast infection may be caused by a course of antibiotics (particularly tetracycline) that were prescribed for another purpose. Antibiotics change the normal balance between organisms in the vagina by suppressing the growth of protective bacteria that normally have an anti-fungal effect. A vaginal yeast infection is able to be passed back and forth between sexual partners as it can reside under the foreskin of the male. This is why both partners should be treated in order to stop the problem.

Modern day medicine treats candidiasis commonly with anti-mycoticsthe anti-fungal drugs. These include topical clotrimazole, topical nystatin, fluconazole, and topical ketoconazole. Someone with a severe infection (generally in hospitalized patients), amphotericin B, caspofungin, or voriconazole may be used. Local treatment may include vaginal suppositories or medicated douches.

There are yeast infection natural cures available also. These natural cures for yeast infections are always a choice that should be taken over a prescription if possible. Colloidal silver has been a patented drug and then relabeled a natural supplement. Oregano oil is also one of the natural yeast infection remedies. In addition to natural antibiotics there are two other natural cures for yeast infections that have been used to control vaginal yeast infection, yogurt insertion and tea tree oil. The body will always respond quicker to a natural solution and return to a healthy state if it doesn’t have a compound job to do. The dual duty of the immune system would be trying to rid the body of an invasive disease while expelling man made toxins in prescription drugs that usually cause unbalanced ph in the blood and immune system.

However, taking care of your body and boosting your immune system to support good health is your everyday job. It’s the only way to ensure good life long health.

Who Can Get A Yeast Infection – Risk Of Developing A Yeast Infection

Who can get a yeast infection?

Ever since you were a tiny little baby you have had microbiological species living in your body. Your skin and your body has been a place where bacteria, mites, fungi and a host of other organisms have been living since then. In fact your body has been harbouring yeast cells since as long as you can remember. The yeast-like fungus that causes yeast infections, Candida, lives in every single person. Candida is often passed on from a mother to a newborn baby during birth. It lives on the human skin, in the mouth, in the intestinal track and, and in the vagina for women. So it should really come as no surprise to you then that people get localized yeast infections in their mouth, thrush, or groin areas.

It is only when this healthy balance of microorganisms is disrupted that Candidiasis, and thus a yeast infection develops. Yuck! So actually you can develop a yeast infection at almost any age. You can be male or female and develop yeast infection; a yeast infection doesn\’t discriminate. You are especially susceptible to a yeast infection are you having a weak immune system or if you ingest a lot of sugar. Yeast feeds on sugar, so a person who has a diet rich in sugar will invariably develop a yeast infection. You can stop eating sugar now and stop feeding your yeast infection.

Other indicators that you most likely have a yeast infection are if you have taken antibiotics, birth control pills or yeast infection drugs in the past. Yeast infections must be combated naturally for them to be effectively eliminated, or restored to normal populations. Drugs will actually make them more resilient and harder to fight off next time around which is why after people take yeast infection drugs they are most likely to have a reoccurring episode of yeast infection.

please help. this is embarrassing.?

okay.. it seems like no matter who i have sex with, i get a yeast infection. me and my boyfriend been together for over 2 years and it seems like every time we have sex, i get a yeast infection. so i got the idea that maybe we were passing it back and forth so i got him some cream for athlete’s foot;jock itch… its what the pharmacist told me to get him to treat it for him, while i got Monistat AGAIN.
so lately, we’ve been using condoms. well 2 nights ago, my older brothers friend raped me and he came in me. and now i have a yeast infection. please dont comment on the fact that he raped me. i just want to forget about it. so my question is… why did i get a yeast infection from him?? and is it possible that me and my boyfriend havent even been passing it back and forth… maybe semen messes up my PH balance??? idk what to do.

Some people react to all sorts. I can get problems just with the shower gel i use!
Its all down to PH balance, you are right. Try going to the pharmacy and getting canasten, its really good. It comes in a tube, and also you can get tablets that help. That will help clear up the thrush. (which is really common so you have nothing to worry about)
Also Try using a feminine wash (femfresh is really good) when you are in the shower, and that will help with the irritation!
Good luck.x

Can yeast infection lead to a UTI?

I recently got a urinary tract infection and went to the health services where they prescribed macrobid. I kept up with the antibiotics very well, but immediately after finishing the pills, I noticed a few symptoms of yeast infection. Nothing severe or anything. I’m not even sure if it was yeast infection. But then I began getting UTI symptoms again. This is just about 2 days after I stop medication. What could be wrong?? This is really bugging me. I was told by a friend that because my UTI symptoms went away and then came back, it probably means my bacteria is NOT drug resistant because if it was, the symptoms would not have stopped… What else can be the problem? Did the discharge from the yeast infection symptoms maybe spread bacteria back and led to another UTI?

And if it IS because the bacteria is now drug resistant, what can doctors do? Prescribe something stronger? I’m worried that eventually it’ll be resistant to all drugs… Please help!

Yes, it can, but it is more likely that the antibiotic prescibed for the UTI caused the yeast infection. But don’t worry either way. See your doc and get rid of it once and for all. Ask for a different med for the UTI and the 1-pill prescription for yeast infection and do the following.

Drink LOTS of water.
Drink cranberry juice – eat cranberries.
Eat 1 cup of yogurt per day.
Avoid thong underwear and pantyhose.
Go commando (no underwear) whenever possible – esp at bedtime.
Wear pads, avoid tampons.
If sexuallly active avoid sex until clear, and then use condoms with KY personal lubricant for another week or so.

Get your body back in PH balance and it will all be okay!

My girlfriend has a yeast infection, is she cheating on me?

i was my girlfriend’s first. She has thick brown yellowish discharge and her vagina discharge. We think its either thrush or yeast infection. Is it possible that she cheated on me and got one of these two from somone else? I was also a virgin when i met her

No, a yeast infection is not a result of her cheating. Thrush and yeast infection happen in two different areas. First of all thrush happens in the throat and is usually caused by antibiotics and second a yeast infection is in the vagina. A yeast infection is caused by a bacteria or irritant, like soaps and detergents. The signs usually consist of a white or yellowish discharge, followed by itching. Your girlfriend needs to go and get checked out by a doctor so she can receive treatment.

If you have any itching, burning, or irritation in your vaginal area, that could be a sign that you have an active yeast infection. While you may not experience these symptoms constantly, when you do feel them they can get pretty bad. It may even be hard for you to go to work or out in public because you are itching so badly. If you have problems like these, make an appointment to see your doctor so that he can diagnose your condition for sure and recommend treatment for you.

You may notice an odorless vaginal discharge which could also indicate that infection is present. This discharge could be thick and grayish-white in color, look like cottage cheese, or be clear with a watery consistency. Sometimes the discharge will smell like bread or beer and have a yeasty smell, even though there is no relationship between a yeast infection and the yeast used in baking and brewing. If the discharge is green, yellow, or brown, it’s more likely to be caused by a bacterial infection and will need a different type of treatment.
