Ear infections with a flop eared dog?

I have a basset hound mix who has had chronic ear infections. I understand this is common in the breed as the shape of the ear promotes bacterial and yeast growth. For the past few months, I’ve started taking her for car rides – almost every day – leaving the window down enough so she can hang her head out the window as dogs love to do (I live in a warm climate). Since then, no ear infections. I’m wondering if the ears being blown back and allowing air to circulate have basically taken care of the problem. Any thoughts from any professionals?
Did ear cleaning for two years – didn’t seem to make a bit of difference. She was continually on otic antibiotics. But thanks for the suggestion.

I’m not a professional, but you are definitely on the right track. Bacteria loves to grow in damp, dark places. I used to go to a water camp where almost all the kids got ear infections due to not being properly cleaned out after getting wet, and the nurse would always tell us use a blow dryer to dry out our ears…and you know what? It worked every time.

Yeast Infection!!?!? Help!!? What causes yeast infection?!?!?

ok i just wanted to know if i have yeast infection! umm this might sound embarrassing but my vagina is itchy and thats the only symptom i have.. and ive been having a little bit of discharge even though i already had my period since 2 weeks ago. Is it yeast infection? What is it? How can i prevent it? How can i cure it if i have it? :( please help me

I’m pretty sure that yeast infection is from either when you have taken antibiotics for too long or too many, because they are killing off some of the normal bacteria that live down there and keep the growth of yeast in check. If there are not enough of the normal bacteria, then the yeast start to grow to numerous and cause and infection. Otherwise I wanna say that a change in pH can kill the bacteria down there too, but I can’t remember if the antibiotics are responsible for the change in pH or not.

From what I remember reading, (besides the itching) the discharge that comes from yeast infection should look kinda of like cottage cheese or like curdled milk. It is normal to have discharge that it clear or somewhat white as it acts as a self cleanser. If it is yeast infection you can use an over the counter product, like Monistat 7; but before you buy it ask the pharmacist that is in the store if they think that that is something you should use, otherwise if it isn’t yeast infection, they might be able to tell you what it is or recommend something to try to stop the itch. Also, you might question on if you have chiggers down there, I know a couple of people who have had them down there, but I really don’t know how they got rid of them. Hope that helped a little.

Can oral sex or a dirty finger trigger a yeast infection?

Ok, I know this sounds dirty, but I got the blame and if it is mine, I accept it. I use Spiriva and Advair, breathing medications… I rinse my mouth after each use. My “ex”-girlfriend, accused me of causing a yeast infection…. a very bad one I must say… either by oral sex or a dirty finger, now my personal hygiene is not bad, but I may have forgotten to wash, not expecting sex. Am I the dirty little cause that she thinks?

If it weren’t for the inhalers, I would say no.

However, use of steroid inhalers CAN cause a growth of yeast in your mouth. Often this is without any symptoms, so you may not even notice it.
But YES, if you have a fungal infection in your mouth it CAN be transmitted to a woman through oral contact.

Review how to use your inhaler — sometimes fungal infections can be related to your technique.
Have a good look in your mouth — are there any white patches, or areas of redness? Is it sore at all?
If not, I’d just let it go. If this is a recurring problem for your girlfriend, your doctor could treat you with Nystatin.

A person has recurrent yeast infection if he or she suffers from this condition at least four times in a calendar year. There are many reasons why Candidiasis or yeast infection recurs. We will discuss the causes here and offer advice on how to prevent Candida infection from recurring.

Causes of recurrent yeast infection

One of the most common causes of recurrent or chronic yeast infection is birth control pills. Women who take birth control pills are more likely to develop vaginal Candidiasis than those who do not. Pregnancy has also been identified as a factor behind chronic yeast infection. Pregnant women are more likely to experience a return of Candidiasis despite having cured the previous occurrence. In this regard, they should seek the help of a doctor before trying over the counter treatment to make sure that whatever they will be taking will not harm them or their baby.

People who have high-sugar diets are also likely to experience recurring Candida infection. The use of antibiotics can also make a person susceptible to repetitive infection since these medications can weaken a person’s immune system. HIV-positive individuals, cancer patients and diabetics are prone to acquiring Candidiasis because their immune system has already taken a hit from their diseases and their bodies are less resistant to the Candida bacteria.

Preventing Candidiasis from recurring

The best way to prevent yeast infection from recurring is to watch one’s diet and lead a healthy lifestyle. Remember that the stronger your immune system is, the less likely you will be infected. Cut down on sugar intake and drink lots of water to flush out the unwanted elements inside your body.

Women who have experienced vaginal Candidiasis and men who have suffered from penile yeast infection should avoid wearing tight fitting undergarments. Use cotton underwear and avoid using spandex or lycra pants. After exercising, don’t just let the sweat dry on your skin. Take a shower and use mild-scented soaps. After using the toilet, wipe yourself from front to back. It should also be noted by women that shaving the vulvar area can deprive them of natural protection against bacteria. When having your monthly period, use tampons instead of sanitary pads to prevent moisture from getting trapped between the pad and your skin.

Treatment options

To relieve the itchiness and burning feeling caused by Candidiasis, remedies made from natural ingredients like vinegar mixed with water, garlic paste and tampon dipped in yogurt can be used.

A woman has recurring vaginal yeast infection if she experiences the condition at least four times in one calendar year. Recurrent or systemic vaginal Candidiasis affects almost half of the women population around the world.

So what is recurring vaginal yeast infection? What causes the systemic infection? What can be done to prevent vaginal Candidiasis from recurring? The answers to these questions can be found below.

Causes of recurrent vaginal Candida infection

Yeast is a naturally-occurring fungus in the vagina. It becomes an infection when the pH balance is upset and yeast overgrowth develops. It can be considered systemic when the infection occurs four or more times in a single calendar year.

There are a number of factors that can lead to yeast overgrowth. Foremost of this is lowered immunity due to other diseases such as diabetes, cancer and HIV. A strong immune system fosters a balance between good and bad bacteria. Once a woman’s immune system is compromised or weakened, the bad bacteria will take over the good ones and create an imbalance. Under this circumstance, the yeast present in our body will also multiply to an undesired level.

Aggravating causes

Recurrent Candidiasis in the vagina can also be caused, or made worse, by taking antibiotics. These medications can affect the immune system and promote yeast overgrowth. Birth control pills, douching and a diet laden with sugar can also contribute to the development of the infection. Other factors that can trigger the condition are stress, sudden change in the weather, crash dieting and having unprotected sex with someone who has the infection.

Natural remedies for vaginal Candida infection

The best thing for a woman to do the moment she suspects that she has developed Candidiasis is to get herself tested and seek the advice of a physician. Although there are a number of over the counter medications for this condition, the natural method of treatment is still preferred by some female patients. Easy to prepare, effective and relatively safe; these natural cures offer a sound alternative to women who do not wish to burden themselves with pills and tablets.

Some of the most popular natural remedies for vaginal yeast infection are tampons dipped in yogurt and garlic clove used as a suppository. Vinegar mixed with water and used as a douche is also said to be effective in curing the infection and relieving the patient of symptoms like itchiness and soreness. Gentian violet applied directly to affected areas and ginger juice are also well-known remedies for vaginal yeast infection.

Recurring vaginal yeast infection should never be ignored. It is also important to find out whether it is caused by some other underlying medical condition. Remember that leaving the infection untreated can cause major discomfort and even pain.

yeast infections in men treatment
very scared and needs to know if it’s a yeast infection or herpes!

I had sex with a man a week and a half ago. The sex became dry at some points (this can cause a yeast infection) and i’m on birth control which has given me yeast infections for a long time. This ‘infection’ is bad because i wore panty hose for three days almost all day and wasn’t able to get treatment for the ‘yeast infection’. I have no blisters but I have on little bump that doesn’t hurt but I shave and i’m thinking it’s just a razor burn. I have a ‘sore’ rough spot that is in the exact same area as where I wipe after going to the bathroom. It only hurts to pee because when it hits a rough spot it burns. Othere than that going to the bathroom would be find. I’m using monistat 7 for three days now and it seems to be getting better each day. I’m freaking out because of the timing. I know I need to see a doctor but i’m in a position where I can’t right now! Please help I need honest answers!

wearing panty hose or underwear that isn’t cotton could possibly cause a yeast infection. i think u answered your own question. if u are using Monostat and its getting better then its most likely a yeast infection. u also listed that sex was dry and uncomfortable which is also a sign of a yeast infection. to top it off u would have a thick, white cottage cheese like discharge, which is also another symptom of a yeast infection.
with herpes u would be experiencing some pain. u would experience things like itching, burning, tingling sensations under the skin of your genitals either one of those or all at the same time. if this was a first out break there could be swollen genitals, trouble and or burning when u pee. u may even feel like u are experiencing the beginning of the flu. plus there would be either blisters, sores, or cut like things on your genitals. genital herpes is usually contracted during some kind of sexual activity so if u haven’t had sex in a long time then its most likely not herpes.
but if your worried then get a test done for herpes (your doctor or a clinic can test u) to find out for sure if u have it or not.
