Will a womens yeast infection cream help a yeast infection in a dogs ears?

Not all yeast infections are the same. Besides being different strains there can be 2nd, 3rd additional bacterial infections also which yeast treatments will not help. Take to vet for accurate diagnosis then work on what is causing the yeast to occur – food, humidity, not cleaning etc.

is it safe to use Vagisil for my dogs yeast ear infection?

A friend of mine told me it worked for her dog. I just got done using it. Was it a good or bad idea?

Is that what the vet told you to do? I’m sure you took the dog to the vet for a diagnosis, right??????

What is the best treatment for Ear Yeast Infections in cats?

My cat has an ear infection. I had to get kind of assertive with the vet to get him to check and see what kind of infection it is. Turns out it is just yeast, in one ear only.

He prescribed her Vetromax, which says “FOR OTIC USE IN DOGS ONLY” under the label he put on the box. It says each gram contains; “Gentamicin sulfate USP equivalent to 3mg gentamicin base, betamethasone valerate USP equivalent to 1 mg betamethasone, and 10 mg clotrimazole USP in a mineral oil-based system containing a plasticized hydrocarbon gel.”

All this medication seems a little bit excessive for yeast, to me. He said it is the only thing available.

any suggestions?

Vetromax is a pretty decent ear treatment. There are other products available, but most are very, very similar. Just about all of them say “dogs only.” This just means that they were tested specifically in dogs, but not cats. This is pretty common in veterinary medications – not a lot of money out there for drug companies to test their products in both species. It is perfectly okay to use it in cats if prescribed by a vet.

He needs the clotrimazole to kill the yeast, and the betamethasone (steroid) to reduce inflammation and pain. The gentamicin (antibiotic) isn’t really necessary, but I don’t know of a single ear medication with an antifungal and a steroid, but no antibiotic.

The mineral oil base/hydrocarbon gel just means it’s an ointment. These products are pretty inert – they just help the medication coat the ear canal and they won’t hurt your cat.

I’d use the medication like the vet told you if I were in your place. However, if you are really uncomfortable with what the vet said, there is no harm in seeking a second opinion. If you want a second opinion, though, get one tomorrow and don’t start the treatment yet (you’ll want the second vet to be able to check the ear before the medications affect how the infection looks).

Home remedy’s for ear yeast infection?

i have a chocolate lab who has been treated several times for a ear infection. the vet seemed to think it was a mite infection, and when treated with medicine, the systems did not go away. After doing some one line research, i have come to the conclusion that it is in fact a yeast infection. However i can not currently budget taking my dog to the vet and wondered if there were any home remodys to help limit the problem for the next week or so until i can get him to the vet. side note: he also scratches his ear alot and seems to have cut his inner ear in the process, how bad will this counteract with the yeast infection?

I have found the best way to treat a yeast and/or bacteria is a solution my vet told me to use. It is 50% white vinegar and 50% rubbing alcohol. I put it in a small squeeze bottle and squeeze it into the ear then use baby wipes to wipe out the ear. The cut will be irritated by the solution and you can use a neosporin type cream on that. Try to do it b4 he goes on a walk to limit the scratching.

Can someone tell me the home remedy for curing yeast infection in a dogs ears?

Don’t think that yeast is common in a dogs ears. Yeast usually happens in warm moist areas. Anyway yeast prefer alkaline environments. Dilute vinegar, 1/2 cup to a quart of water, can be put on a washcloth and the ears wiped out several times per day. If no help, see the vet. Would not use the creams for human skin in a dogs ear.

Can antibiotics cause a yeast infection in a dog?

Similar to how women can get a yeast infection after finishing a dose of antibiotics could my dog have developed a yeast infection in his ear because of the antibiotics?

Yes, antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad and allow the yeast to flourish.

If your dog is on antibiotics you should be at least giving him some yogurt.

Can having a yeast infection show sugar in your urine exam?

I went in for a yrly exam and it showed sugar in my urine. I currently have a yeast infection. Or could it be that I have diabetes???

Yeast love sugar (it’s a good growing environment). Diabetics often have sugar in their urine and are therefore at increased risk for getting yeast infections. You need to have some tests done to determine if you have diabetes. It is very important not to ignore this & to get started on the appropriate treatment if necessary.
